Profender spot on and Advocate spot on for cats - cheap online?

Does anyone know where online I can buy advocate flea treatment and profender worm treatment for cats online without the need for prescription?

I have a female cat she weighs around 3kg and both my toms weigh 4.5kg. I'm after 3mths supply for flea stuff and just the 1 application for worming stuff for each of them as that lasts so i've been told for 3mths.

Thanks
:)

You're asking how to circumvent the law of the land.

Aside from that, you may be endangering the health of your animal. Or risking your money. It's all covered here, which incidentally answers your question:

EDIT: In case you don't read through everything there, I'll mention that for the medicines that I looked at, it was cheaper to get a vet prescription and order online from a UK company. So you may well end up paying more for the privilege of risking your money/animal's health/etc.

Gosh, thanks for that. I'll speak to vets on prescription. I only hope the company is uk based when I order it.

    No need to do that!

I've used (in no particular order) Animed Direct, Viovet, Monster Pet Supplies, BestPet, Chemist Direct & Vet UK. And probably a load of others.

Use Google or Google shopping to find what you want and then have a quick check on the website below to see if they look decent. As an example, most of the ones I've used score >8, whereas DiscountPetCare got a 4.

Thanks, its hard though to know whats legit after reading those threads. Do you think its worth me asking my vet to recommend, though i know bit cheeky but i find it expensive but only have got out of convenience when cats have check up.

If I did ask vet for prescription to maybe do online with ones he recommends do you think he'll charge me for it?

Don't bother asking your vet to recommend. As I said, just use Google shopping to see which place is cheapest and then quickly check out their name on trustpilot. For example, Advocate small cat is cheapest at Animed @ £11.16 for 3 pipettes or £20.75 for 6, both with free postage. The large cat one for your toms will be a little more.

Animed has a decent score on Trustpilot, so you're good to go.

Your vet will charge you for the prescription, so try to get one for the 6 pipette pack rather than the 3. I'm 99% sure that it will be significantly cheaper for you to get the prescription and order online, but it's worth checking. Call your vet and find out (a) what 6 pipettes of Advocate small would cost and (b) what the prescription for 6 pipettes would cost.

Thanks so much. I'll need to get a prescription for adocate large cat x 6 pippettes, advocate small cat x 3 pippettes then profender x 3. I think its medium but check with vet anyway.

I just had a look at vetuk which had been recommended by few forumites and looks good.
  • Hi

Just to comment that Animed requires a current prescription but they do seem to be the cheapest - not sure how I feel obtaining a prescription after they've checked the cats and not buy this from the vet?

This thread is a year old so might be worth starting a new thread for your question.

However, to address it from my POV, I've got a few prescriptions from my vet and they've never had any issues with my request. I've used the same vet for the last 12 years so they know I appreciate their services.

I do try to support my vets where I can, so if the difference in price isn't huge I may well just buy from my vets - but obviously money plays a part in my decision and why pay £60 for something I can get for £40 - I could spend that extra £20 on something else to enrich my dogs' live. My vets realise that they cannot match the prices of online stores (I have asked if they could pricematch as I'd be happy to buy from them if they did) and they've never hestitated to write me a prescription.
  • There are some massive savings buying pet meds online. I buy Propalin for my dog from Animed Direct for £15.99, its over £40 from the vets. So even with paying £7 for the prescription it is loads cheaper. One off meds I usually get from the vets, but for long term meds it is worth the hassle of getting a prescription and ordering online.
