Would you pay extra if asked

Just had an email asking for £2 extra for postage. First time in 12 years on Ebay this as happened.

I started emailing a response on the lines of you can't change the price (heck ive paid £30 to replace an item ive sold for £5 , cos the original was damaged - but i hate letting anyone down).

Before sending the email, i paused and decided i really wanted them.

So i will pay - but would YOU just accept it - or reflect it in feedback. They are still good value (assuming they are good quality).

As a seller - i would not dare ask for more money. But it does look a genuine under-estimation of cost (which is why i had 2nd thoughts about refusing).

  • No way Jose.

If they underestimated it's not your problem.

    I agree with this wholeheartedly.

  • I wouldn't either. I've underestimated postage costs, on more than one occassion, and wouldn't dream of asking the buyer for more money!
  • I've lost out many a times by not getting my postage right, at the end of the day it was my fault for not taking the time to weigh it or get an estimate

No I wouldn't pay and would be a bit surprised to actually be asked by the seller.

I did one which was stupid of me it was a box set of DVDs and he had put he wanted more postage in the description. Ended up paying for it and it came and cost a couple of pound less than what he charged. He got low stars for that one

  • I bought an item which the seller got cold feet about sending by courier (at my cost) and insisted on insuring. They said they'd split the cost but I never saw any paperwork relating to the insurance. I considered it was their way of squeezing more money out of me for the item but it would have been interesting if the item had arrived damaged.

No, I wouldn't send any more money. I have occasionally underestimated the postage costs and have always just taken the hit myself. I have twice been asked for extra postage because the seller estimated wrong. In both incidences the extra postage would have made the item more expensive than I was willing to pay (it would have made the item more expensive than others on ebay). One seller sent me this really whiny 'poor me' email almost blaming for her mistake.

    Cheers folks.

Thats why i was a bit peeved - i've often lost out as a seller with postage - so i thought as a buyer i could just sit back and let someone else have all the hassle.

Anyway, i asked him if he had heard of collect plus. He hadn't, which is probably a good job - so he's sending it to a shop. It only costs £3.49 up to 10kg. He's also sending it to where i will be away for 2 weeks. :D

Of course, he loses his seller protection - but now he's making a small profit on the postage - and isn't upsetting me. I am a bit worried it will take longer than 2 weeks though - and i will be back home. After all, this is part of yodel. Best laid plans and all that.

Hopefully it works out - over to you Yodel
