You think a spike on the mains can only trip one of them?Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
OP, what evidence you have that he did this? Could it have been an electrical spike on the mains?
I agree the surveyer was probably the one who did it, but can you prove it?
Claim for the defrosting off your insurance and forget it/
As the OP describes the situation he has evidence of the time that trip occurred and I assume this matches the time that the surveyor visited...
I would first write a strong complaint to the surveyor. If this gets nowhere (likely), make a claim...0 -

Apparently it is three times more likely for a person driving ten miles to buy a Californian Lottery ticket to be killed in a car accident than to win the jackpot. And I would say you would be more likely to win the lottery than have every single circuit breaker tripped by a mains spike. Even if you didn't buy a ticket.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Photograph everything that is damaged and not useable, estimate the cost of replacing, write a letter to the buyers via the agent or solicitor, they can claim from the surveyor. Definitely discard raw chicken or prawns, but veggies and the like are fine even if thawed as long as meat or fish could not have dripped on them.
I wouldn't involve the buyers, it has very little to do with them and will just add another complication to the process.
The Surveyors will have a formal complaints procedure and will have insurance to deal with such issues - both are compulsory. Speak to them, find out what it is and make the complaint / claim. I'd probably let the EA's know what was going on, but wouldn't involve them or the buyer in the claim.0 -
We've sold our house (stc) and the buyer had their surveyor visit us today.
We arrived home this evening at about 7.45 to find we had no electric.
On closer inspection it appears that the surveyor had turned off each individual RCD (the main switch was still on) Looking at the hot water timer it had been off since about 11.00am
Now we have defrosted food and possible long term damage to our Tropical fish (Although they look ok at the moment :j) Plus the wifes not had her soaps record (so not all bad)
Should I complain? and who to?
(We better get a glowing report!)
So the power was off for 9 and 3/4 hours? From memory, different tropical fish have different tolerances to low water temps. but 9 hours isn't a long time for the water temp to drop - depends on the size of the tank ofcourse.
IF you have frozen food which has defrosted in the freezer after just being without power for this time, you need to consider that your freezer isn't working properly - as others have said, an undisturbed freezer should keep food frozen for approx 24 hours...Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
I agree re: the freezer. Having lived in an area with frequent power cuts, freezer food does not start to defrost for about 24 hours as long as the door is kept shut.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

frozen food...i do not believe you...We often had power outages and the food was ok for at least a day..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
My husband once left the freezer door open. When we costed the food that had spoiled it was surprisingly little. Not even worth considering a claim on the insurance, bearing in mind any future insurance will increase because you have made a claim.0

that's a bit judgmental!
The power went off overnight (<12 hours) whilst I was staying in a holiday caravan last week (standard fridge-freezer)... all icecream etc had thawed by the morning so was unusable.
I would suggest that it very much depends on the make, type, age of the fridge freezer and the ambient temperature.0
