Sorry if this has already been discussed. BT are about to charge ~£4.50 for non direct debit customers. What are others doing because of this.....
and is it true that when you leave BT for another service and you want to change back at a later date for some reason, you have to pay?

You're right, it has been discussed before and at great length but, to save time:
Currently, those who pay by DD get a £3 per quarter (£1 per month) discount. If you want, you can say that those who don't pay by DD are charged £3 extra per quarter (£1 per month).
From 1/5/07, BT is increasing the difference between those 2 methods of payment by £1.50 per quarter (50p per month) - so those who don't pay by DD will pay £4.50 per quarter more than those who do, instead of the £3 more they currently pay.
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=400053Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
BT were going to charge £5 if you left them, but they have dropped the idea.

If you do go back to them eg for line rental, broadband etc etc you will be subject to the terms of a new contract anyway.
If you cps your calls away and then return a contract could apply, depending on the terms of the new offer you accepted .0 -
People have got upset as most people prefer a discount than a penalty surcharge, even if at the end of the day you would be paying the same whichever way they worded it.
Virgin Media it's £5 per month penalty surcharge.
I admit, I prefer to hear "discount" than to hear "surcharge".
I remember the days of Birmingham cable where phone line rental was £6 per month with 50p DDD.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
