get a smaller house0

But even if its just a box room the council will see you as being overhoused and deduct some of the rent.
Thats why i said get a smaller house.0 -
whilst not wishing to be as abrupt as the previous response, if your oh is single and has a property worthy of £575 PCM and the rent officer thinks he could get somewhere for £315 pcm, then he needs to move.
He took on a 6 month tenancy, it's his responsibility to cover that. much liek siging to buy a car or taking on a loan.
What I don;t understand is why you say "we" had to leave the other house and "we" can appeal.
Is it just the OH or you too? If so, what is your income? and can;t you pay towards the rent too?0 -

I think that is the problem.
One child = two bedrooms needed.
You are going to have to fund the luxury of the third & spare bedroom yourself.0 -
Hate to agree with the above posters as well as point out the following
Unless you are seperated, you only NEED two, you WANT three as you would like a spare. Also, the use of "we" here is inferring that you will also be living there - cant you contribute to the rent / bills?Considering we need a 3 bedroom house as we have a son
Please dont take the above comments of myself or other posters too harshly
- we are just pointing out the reality that its the councils responsibility to help you out with your NEEDS, not your WANTS. "Getting Married" - The act of betting half of everything you own on the fact you will love someone forever :rotfl:0 -

yeh it sounds to me like her SINGLE OH went a got a nice 3 bed house thinking the hb is going to pay it as he's on the dole, THEY need a 3 bed house as THEY have a kid, so looks to me like she and her kid live there ON THE SIDE as it were, she works but they both expect the hb to pay their rent.0 -

Perhaps not, I just expected them both to be on the dole (otherwise she would "expect" to have to pay towards the rent).
I read it that the tenancy is in his name so he is claiming the HB, I could be wrong.
I didn't read any mis or wrong doings in it.
But still stands, if you want the luxury of a spare room, you need to fund it, not the tax payer.0 -
Just read your last post.
Single man expects the social to pay for a three bedroom house for him:rolleyes: .
So we are talking the luxury of two spare rooms now:rolleyes:
Come on now, is this for real or an April fools joke?0 -

I'm afraid thats life, you get what you can afford.0 -
iluvdarius2003 wrote: »Excuse me but you know nothing about me so change your tone! I don't live there, I refer to it as we as we are his parents. The reason the house was taken on is because we were a couple at the time and are now not. I am a student so have no income at all. Before he signed the lease he asked how much the rent would cover and was told the appropriate figures. Now the council have changed their mind about it. Otherwise the house would never have been taken on by my oh. Also I refer to him as oh as he is still my son's Dad. I live with my parents and always have done. The house is actually not worth £575 the rent has been inflated slightly as it's a private let. And if the rent officer can find an appropriate place in this town for the figures quoted then I will shake his hand. As a one bed flat in the worst area in town, and I mean literally living in a drug den, is £400 per month.
So before you make assumptions about people get the facts. We have never claimed falsely and never intend to do so. My oh actually was worked and was rather unfairly made redundant in Christmas week due to the company going bankrupt. And for reasons that are none of your business he is finding it hard getting a new job.
You say you got a three bedroom house because you were together at the time you got it, then you say youve always lived with your parents
You are contradicting yourself:rotfl:0
