to my localThat's brilliant, thanks! One more question though......Do i write to my local tax office or is there a 'head office' address that i should send it to?
I just wrote to the tax office listed on my tax coding correspondence as long as you quote your tax reference number and NI No it doesn't really matter0 -
Oh yes, that will teach me to read things properly! Thanks again!!

I put in a claim for uniform tax rebate just over 3 weeks ago. I have today received a re-coding of my tax allowance to 8340 and have been told that a cheque had been issued for 190.00 being the rebate for previous years. Just for the cost of a stamp....not bad

ive got a letter back this week saying they are recoding my tax but i wasnt told that i was getting a cheque for the rebate, any way of checking if i will be getting a cheque or is it just a waiting game?0 -
Does anyone know if you can claim if you work in retail? i have work shirts provided but have to wash them at home.

I would think you have as much right to claim as anyone else does. As long as your company don't provide laundry services.
Check the links above.0 -

Potentially yes. There is a list of nationally accepted occupations (nurses/police etc), then there are "local agreements" with employers so your employer may already have one in place. If neither of these scenarios are the case then you need to write in to plead your case

Hello all,
I am glad that somebody asked such question.
I have got the papers at home from the company dealing with tax rebate on uniforms/professional fees etc...and suggested sum is much higher than some of you mentioned here. The company said I can claim 4 years back, but they also want admin fee of £15+20% of value of my rebate if all is successful. A friend used the same company and recomended it to me and others. She wanted to do it herself, but found it difficult to find all the receipts. So I am not sure what to do now. Could I claim even 6 years back? t&jDMP started 2/2007

This reply may be too late now anyway, but as far as i am aware originally you could claim for the previous six years. Due to the increase in claims, this as now been lowered to four years.
As for not being able to find receipts....you don't need any! Just write directly to HMRC at the address in the link above, then sit back and wait. It took about a month to receive my cheque!
