Hi
Had a look and couldn't find an answer to my question.
I bought a car privately in April this year - now the cat needs to be replaced possibly, kwik fit replace it about a year ago and I have the warranty (in the other drivers name) am I able to act upon the warranty?
Kwik fit say no and referred me to t&c's but surely I've some legal right, it shouldn't need replaced again so soon?
Maybe I'm wrong about my rights but thought I'd check here first
Cheers

Unless the warranty is transferrable, no. Even SOGA doesn't require rights to be transferred. The contract was between Kwik Fit and the original purchaser and all contractual rights are given to that person.0

Whats wrong with the CAT? What brand?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

Hmm it says warranty is not transferable - I'm just frustrated as a part replaced shouldn't really go so soon especially when the car isn't thrashed etc
It's an Audi a3 1997 the cat seems to be rattling, checked and it isn't the heatshield and another garage said it wasn't that, rather it's the cat rattling so unless something has broken inside
So frustrating, surely an item shouldn't become faulty so doo after fitting and now I'll have to pay to fix it even though a warranty is sitting thereAny input I provide is purely my own interpretation and is in no way 100% accurate, I will try to help as best I can in all cases.

car parts can fail at any time they may have been using cheap inferior import parts
can you take it to the original kwik fit garage maybe speak to them face to face it may work out for you
if not go else where and get it replaced you could always go europarts or german and swedish and buy the part and fit yourself there pretty simple to fit0 -
cats can break due to thermal shock(puddles to the man in the street) we have had a little rain this year in blighty so kwicky fit may not be to blame anyway0

my suggestion would be to move on, your not going to get anywhere with a warrenty that is not honoured because there is no transfur permission.
avoid qwik !!!!!! from here on out.
A3 1997 1.6 1.8 or deisel?
petrol models are pretty cheap for cats, diesels considerably more.
avoid a cheap cheap one could be in same boat in 12 months, i would put a figure of £160.00 for the part and about hours labour.0 -
Did they actually unbolt the CAT and check it?
You can get cheap CATs but it depends how long your going to keep the car.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Not true.
I was advised by my legal helpline that under the Law of Property Act 1925 any insurance policy will automatically follow the property if it's sold, UNLESS the terms specifically state that it's not transferable.
I quoted this law to a car dealership and successfully persuaded them to agree to transfer the warranty to the new owner when I was selling a car.
The Act itself is full of impenetrable jargon so I can't point to the section or wording. It may be that case law has extended the meaning or application somewhat since 1925.
Most warranties state that they can be transferred to a new owner on payment of a small admin. fee (say £20). I don't know if Kwik-fit' does.
Having said that, the Kwik-fit warranty is very poor value, so it may not be covered; and it was paid monthly, so unless the previous owner has paid up to date it won't even be valid. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.

So it IS true.. SoGA doesn't require the warranty to be transferred, as per the warranty contract.
And doesn't this bit of legislation cover real estate and such? :?0 -
Can't you get the bloke you bought the car off to take the car to Kwik-*hit?
Or do Kwik-*hit require proof that you are Mr X when doing a warranty claim, ie show driving licence?"There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
