Apparently ebay messaging service can fail sometimes. Maybe they didn't get your emails?

  • I would have a look at their recent activity on eBay: if they have been active during the time they were not responding to queries, I'd probably neg them and give them low stars, but if there's no sign they've even logged in, it's possible they've had problems with their internet connection or other unforseen circumstances, so I'd leave a neutral with an explanatory comment and omit the DSRs.

Or maybe they didn't respond so they automatically get 5* for comms?

They have to have marked as dispatched within a day and have a 1 working day handling time Also, communciation from either party counts, so automatic 5* would not be available to this seller.
Automatic 5-star detailed seller ratings for communication
Most transactions on eBay go smoothly for buyers and sellers without any need for contact. It is important to provide buyers with all the relevant information they need in your listings.

From 29 March, you'll be automatically awarded a 5-star detailed seller rating for seller communication when a transaction meets all of the following criteria:

Tracking is uploaded or the item is marked as dispatched within 1 working day after payment has been received.
Stated handling time is 1 working day or same day.
The payment method is PayPal, making the payment date visible to eBay.
No communication took place between the buyer and seller from 14 days before the transaction up until the point that Feedback was left. This includes messages within My eBay and any opened cases.

Neutral personally. I only leave negs if I am unhappy with the item and there is some issue with returns.

Ah, thanks TOWIU, I didn't know that!
Then again, maybe the seller didn't either...

No, it is such an ambiguous set of reasons to give 5*.....it is a wonder anyone understands it.

I'd leave a neutral saying "nice item, but shame it took 10 days to post it!"

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I understand it - someone who gives all the info up front, promises that they post promptly and keeps to that promise, buyer is happy with the item...

No need for any comms, just like me buying a pasty in Greggs.

I ship within two days and message my buyers on dispatch, but when I'm buying sundry items and they come quickly, there is no need IMO for lengthy conversations - so eBay reward the seller for doing their job properly, which they ought to.

I think it was the wrong response to the issue with buyers getting upset with all the spam eBay sends out (against which it protects otherwise superb sellers), but that's not to say I don't understand the rationale behind it.
