Modified your car even slightly? The EU want you off the road!

My wife has a Citroen 2CV. She took me to an international 2CV meeting once. Somewhere in Europe, someone had taken a 2CV, removed the engine and put a 1000cc motorbike engine in the back (where the back seats would have been), chain driven to a crude axle. I can't remember a dif. They had done it in the week before the meeting, for a laugh. It went like stink but never in a straight line and had to be driven with the windows open, as they hadn't sorted out the exhaust (or the brakes).

There is a sense of humour on the continent.

the government will stand to loose alot of money as the aftermarket car market is massive
alot of modifications actually improve cars with the exception of young boy/girl racers with there stickers, bodykits neons etc
take for example suspension, brake, filters and wheels these actually improve the characteristics of the cars some a marginal increase and others depending on spec make a huge difference
