Tesco 12month SIM only £7.50 per month or Three SIM200 - any problems?

I'm looking for a cheaper sim only payg deal for my daughter. Currently she's on Vodafone text & web, so £10 top up per month gives her 300 texts and 500mb free. She is a regular text-monster, and I see the Tesco mobile £7.50 on a 12-month sign up gives her 5000 texts, 500mb, and 250 minutes free. I can cap her spend too, which could be handy ;).

Has anyone had any problems with this sim before I sign up to it for 12 months? Her phone is unlocked already, and we don't need to port her number over to Tesco, a new number wouldn't cause any issues.

eta - have found the Three essential internest SIM200 for a little cheaper, has cashback through TCB at the moment I believe, and has plenty free texts and data for my daughter. Is this one better?

  • Never used Tesco but they piggy back on o2 so check coverage in your area before ordering.

For comparison, Vodafone did me a £8/month SIM on a Monthly contract - 50mins, unlimited txts, 100MB data and 750MB Openzone wifi. I purchased this for my daughter. The thing she likes is the txts, The monthly contract was important for me. I resent tying to a long contract when a phone isnt provided or required.

hold on - 3 have an essential internet sim200, 12 month sign-up, for £6.90 plus Topcashback. This would work out cheaper than the Tesco one even without cashback, and has plenty of free texts and data included.

Is this one better do you think? I think between all the members of our household over the years we've been with most providers, but not 3 or Tesco before (but we've been with O2 so Tesco should be fine).

Try a free Three sim to make sure the signal/coverage is adequate before committing yourself to a contract.
  • I would not recommend the £6.90 deal as its a contract and you can run up bills.

Look ay giffgaff with runs on o2 network
For only £10 get 250 UK minutes, unlimited UK texts and unlimited mobile Internet for one month. Its PAYG

I had a Tesco Sim Only Mobile Contract and it was fine for text and speech.Didnt use for Data.

As you say it has the option of capping http://phone-shop.tesco.com/tesco-mobile/help-and-support/capped-faqs.aspx which comes in handy for some peeps.Plus you only get capped on the part of the allowance you’ve used up. So just because you’ve used up all your minutes doesn’t mean you have to stop texting.

Also you get Triple Tesco Points.;)

You could try it out by getting a free payg sim and putting it on this not publicised a lot
tariff http://phone-shop.tesco.com/tesco-mobile/help-and-support/call-charges-payg-litetariff.aspx You have to phone customer service to do this.

and adding a £5 (5000 text bundle) for a month.

and then convert to sim only contract if you like it.

I have a Tesco Sim Only Mobile Contract and it's been without any issues.

They piggy-back on O2's network, so before you commit try out a freebie PAYG sim-card to see what the coverage is like in the areas your daughter will use the phone in.

I believe Tesco do 1 month contracts, although you don't get as much 'stuff' for the same price as the 12 month contracts.
