Coming to the end of my contract

I am nearly at the end of an 18 month Dolphin 15 Web promo contract. I have been with Orange since 2002, and have always just taken a deal with them at renewal. I have been reviewing my account, and I'm not convinced renewing is my best option.

I am a very light user these days, the person I call the most is on my magic numbers, currently from my Dolphin 15 contract I have the following remaining this month (with a billing date of the 8th) 85 mins cross, 100Mins loyalty, 492MB of data, I get unlimited texts (I send between 150 - 200 a month).

My level entry smartphone does what I need, so I'm not looking for a fancy new phone. I don't really want to tie myself into a contract, although I would consider it, I'm think PAYG or monthly rolling contract is the way to go for me. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I've looked at 3 for £10 a month and also giff gaff, I've heard Orange will do me a pay monthly sim only deal? Although I couldn't find out details, although I suspect it is hidden as they will want you on a more expensive contract.

Does my magic number person (another Orange Mobile) come off my x network mins? or will calls to this person be in addition to what is shown on my bill? I call & text them every week / work day. Obviously at the moment I'm not using my allowance or anywhere close to it, obvioulsy I'll be stuggling to get a cheaper contract as I'm at the low end already.

Looking for thoughts on what I should do, I'm pretty sure renewing isn't the way to go.

Personally I think auto renewing is the most expensive option (but also the easiest).

I switch providers every time my contract ends and make use of cashback deals with Quidco or Topcashback wherever possible.

If your phone is unlocked and you can get a decent O2 signal then you could consider a sim only deal with Tesco Mobile.

  • I haven't checked the phone to be honest, HTC so it shouldn't be an issue to get it unlocked. It isn't "orange" branded so I'm hopeful that its not :-)

How many minutes do you get?

If you get a good vodaphone signal, consider Ovivo.

    For free you get

    50 minutes (any network)
    50 texts any network
    100 mb data
    Unlimited Ovivo to Ovivo calls

    And for £5 you get:

    100 texts
    100 minutes
    300 mb

I see from Twitter that the Ovivo to Ovivo free calls first come out of the 50 minute allowance.
This of course will reduce the free minutes if you call another Ovivo handset before you use up the free minutes.
Although when the 50 mins run out you would still be able to call another Ovivo handset for free.
It's not just about the money

How do you suppose people are to suggest plans when you don't state your usage, or do you expect people to search the Orange site for the '18 month Dolphin 15 Web promo contract', note the allowances and then subtract the figures you quote?
