is recorded enough to protect from scammers

I email the buyer the tracking number and tell them they can track it, as well as me. I think that would put people off trying to pull a fast one. Also fill it in on your dashboard. You're lessening your chances of a buyer claiming non receipt/trying it on.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31
10 & 20p: misc savings £2.70
50p: Christmas presents £3.50
£2: holidays £2.000 -

As above only if the item shows as delivered, merely using recorded gives no benefit at all. In fact to a real scammer it could be even better, recorded tracking number given, message online never updates to show delivered- therefore buyer just points paypal to that and says item nto delieverd and gets a refund. They actually have 'proof' item hasn't been delivered even though in my case item probably arrived in a couple of days and was already being used.
If sellers think every buyer is a scammer and they need to protect themselves against every single one, then I doubt that online selling is really a good thing for them.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. They cannot 'track it'. It is a 'signed for' service, not tracking. As has been said above, if it isn't signed for then chances are the system won't update from the 'progressing through the network' message.0 -
I sent item using recorded delivery (they only paid for standard 2nd).
The tracking number still shows as 'in progress' even though its been 3 weeks. Buyer wants a refund. Since i am without item and have paid for delivery do you think that a refund of item costs only will be OK? Someone here said it could take 6 weeks so dont want to refund full amount only for RM to say no your not getting any compensation. Maybe the lesson is to use Special delivery for everything (cheapest is nearly £6)?0 -

If you cannot prove it has been delivered, why do you feel you can withhold some payment?
It is immaterial to your buyer if you are compensated or not.
I'm afraid you need to refund in full, that includes the postage they originally paid on the purchase.0 -
I'm amazed that there aren't much much more cases of buyers just receiving the goods and then claiming to have never received them and getting a refund too. It seems to be so easy to do from teh buyers perspective.
Amazingly, i've sent nearly 200 things out and am yet to have a problem, although i've got some higher value items in auction at the moment and am just waiting to be scammed, lol.0 -

You have found out why many of us don't use recorded.
As per theonlywayisup's post you must now refund in full and use your proof of postage or orange slip to claim your losses from Royal Mail. All standard post has a £46 limit for compensation (that includes recorded) and the same exceptions apply to items whether they were recorded or not.
Anecdotally it can sometimes be more difficult to get compensation for recorded as RM know that much of it is delivered and unsigned so don't automatically pay out. There have been a few mentions of this on both the ebay community boards and Amazon seller boards and when that has happened RM apologise for lack of signature and refund the 95p recorded charge.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Boards like this exist only for people to talk about their selling or buying problems, 99.999999% of transactions are absolutely fine, we only get to hear about the very small percentage that go wrong.
I usually send out about 120 items a month, give or take and have a loss about every 3 or 4 months on average. If I sent everything recorded it would cost me an average of £114 extra per month out of my profitI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Royal Mail do not consider it a tracked service:

Please note that is not a fully tracked service.
