Any way to decreas the cost of heating ?

It becomes cold, we have to use some heater in the winter. heating always cost me too much, it is an expensive bill.
I choose wood stove as the heater for our house in the winter, we just have one and place it in our living room, the stove is burning for the whole winter except all of us are outside. In my opinion, the wood stove doesn't cost me too much, but the fuel cost me much. Is there anybody know how to make wood stove offer efficient heat with limited fuel ? Or anybody know some good ideas to decrease the cost on heating?
Thank you in advance!

Only heat the rooms you use. Amazes me the number of households I. go in to that have hallways that feel like Barbados. We heat one living room and one bedroom and use draught excluders. Oh, we live in a 5 bed 3000 sq ft detached, the bills aren't much more now than when we were living In a three bed semi. I don't understand why people heat rooms they never use, but that's just me!

As for wood, I sweep my own chimney and am on good terms with a local arbourist who struggles to shift the large quantity of leyland pine he chops down. 12 leyland lasted us 3 years worth of log burning .the only thing to watch is the creosote. You need to make sure the wood is completely dry and we store ours for the last six month In a very dry garage to ensure this. Burns a treat, give off loads of heat and to be honest, I don't notice much more usage compared to hardwood. If its good enough for the Scandinavian it will do me!

Only other suggestion would be a stove fan and more draught exclusion. We also insulated the ceilings with Rockwool to keep the heat in our rooms. Not much, only 100mm but makes a big difference.

A good and cheap alternative, Jane, are electric blankets or throws.
Plus full insulation and draught proofing. Also look out for wood in skips, though often these are treated .
And when you see a tree surgeon, ASK . Unless he is in the log business, it is costing him to dispose.
