I totally understand your concern about an older rescue dog and not knowing how the dog might react with your children, but this shouldn't be a problem so long as you go to a reputable rescue shelter that properly assesses the dogs behaviour around children.
I wouldn't recommend getting a rescue dog direct from an owner who is looking to rehome a dog as they may not be honest and just want to get rid of the dogBUT the last thing a reputable rescue wants is a dog not settling in its new home and "bouncing back."
Taking on any dog is a big commitment so I would really take your time and maybe go visit a few local shelters to get to know the dogs in their care. If you don't feel up to that at the moment then many shelters now have details of dogs that need homes on their websites.
You could even just call then and explain your situation and ask them to keep you details on file until a suitable dog comes in? You will need to take your kids and other dog so you can all meet the potential new dog and see how everyone gets along.
I adopted a dog aged 8 who is an absolute darling with children. She came into the shelter with 2 other dogs because the couple had got divorced.
If you want to search for local shelters in you area, this database is handy (scroll down until you find the county you need):

If you don't feel ready to take on another dog until your kids are older, then do you have any friends or family with a friendly dog that might be able to visit or go for walks with your dog?
Regarding the anal glands problem, you could try giving her shredded wheat, bran flakes or weetabix for her breakfast meal. These are high in fibre & will bulk up her stools which will in turn press against the glands and keep then healthy. (sorry if TMI all!)
Your dogs loss of appetite may have affected the consistency and frequency of her stool and can in turn affect the glands.
Give her some gentle hugs from me. x
By the way Hi everyone! :wave:I am new to this thread but not new to MSE and am normally only browsing on my phone so a bit fiddly to post much! Though I do hit the thanks button as much as possible.
I love the friendly nature of this thread and the fact that you help each other out. I have managed two successful shampoo shops a few days ago, so a big thank you to everyone who has posted details of their shops. I am now laid up recovering from wisdom tooth surgery (ouch!).
Bye for now (sorry for the long first post!:o) & Happy Shopping all!
MM x
Edit: I just read through the posts after your post and see I am repeating what other's have already said! I am a bit slow with the the old typing lol! xI hope you can keep up
I'm still catching up from yesterday morning

Mahoosive thanks to Fudge Cake for their amazing list. I can't thank you enough in words what a financial difference this is making so I am sending a virtual bunch of flowers"One hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much was in my bank account, nor what my clothes looked like but the world may be a little bit better because I was important in the life of a child."0 -
I personally don't think the APG goes on your IP address. I had entered all of mine in at work with different details each time.
It wasn't until I entered my first one at home that I got the capped voucher as my limit had apparently been reached.
Since then I haven't had an issue and have done most of my apg's from home, where I have a static IP.
Hi Magicowen, did you use your same email address and postcode at home, as you had at work, when your receipts were capped please? thanks:)0 -
Morning everyone
Huge congrats to Tiger and family. Gorgeous baby, happy birthday Polly and welcome to the world.
Also welcome to juju17, missdaisies
Happy belated birthday to Naebirrac - sneaky
Regarding the thread and its ethos, just want to bump 3Dogs' and debsjc's excellent posts from last night. If you are reading the thread rather than skimming, the love and thoughtfulness and care and concern are all still there and peeps are expressing these thingsI agree that the thread has changed but we have to stick around and see this throughPeople have not changed. They are still loving, caring, helpful, thoughtful, etc. The swamping of the thread by APG doesn't change that. We have to make sure that enough of the thread survives and we can only do that by staying, not going
I know a lot of people feel the thread has changed. I'm not always able to get on here much, so you might feel i'm not in much of a position to comment.
For me they is still community spirit. Whilst there is a major glitch on there is bound to be more talk about that, and less about the goings on in everyones lives. But community spirit is also shown by supporting each other, and that is still happening. In these times most people need to take advantage of this opportunity to save money, and we are helping each other do that.
Once this is over, the Elite will change back to more photos and friendship, which is also lovely. No reason why we can't have both.
Making a difference is what matters, in which ever way we can. Supporting and helping people is what counts, and for many financial support is what they need in hard times. This has huge value too, everyone has different needs and all folk are equal.Mahoosive thanks to Fudge Cake for their amazing list. I can't thank you enough in words what a financial difference this is making so I am sending a virtual bunch of flowers
And the fact that this support is available to everyone is what makes this thread such a very marvellous place. Leaving the thread is not the answer. Skip and skim over without comment the stuff you don't like and savour and linger on the stuff you do enjoy. Draw from it what you want and need. Then add more of what you like for the benefit of others. Just like real life really0 -
I'm just back from a Ts that has the Olympic mascots in bins at the front door. There are yellow signs on them that say "to celebrate (blah blah blah) we are giving these away, discount will be applied at the till" I started loading my trolley and a manager pointed out a scrap of paper that was stuck to a cage that said "one per customer"
He told me that I could just buy one item and get a free teddy. buy another item and get a free teddy. Buy another get a free teddy, etc, etc.
How I wish I had found a 1p stash of choccie :rotfl:
Did you not stock up on mushy peas?:D0 -
Morning, just been woken by ds2 slamming the front door. Lovely start to the weekend! Messed my apg up a bit last night, bought 3 Aussie poos as was tempted by the 3 4 £10, lost over £4 as its dearer in t's! Got cheese for the first time as the a near my work doesn't stock either of the glitchy ones.
Tropicana on the list for today. Judging by the prices it seems to be glitching with the petit filous would you agree? I'm sure my teen will eat them even though they are tiny, probably have 3 in one sitting!
It's only a game

Good morning, looks a lovely day.
Just off to catch up see you later.0 -
All because I was unsure of your sentiment? I wasn't trying to be rude, I was trying to say in a lighthearted way that I had no idea what your post was trying to convey (and still don't)
And neither have I. I have just read back and had no idea of what was meant either - and still don't:(0
