Harveys furniture - cashback claiming

I've already put this over on the Northern Ireland board but I think Harveys is a UK wide chain so I've put it here as well to see if anyone knows anything about it.
I've just read in the Sunday Life today (consumer section) about someone trying to reclaim the cash back on an insurance policy taken out with Harveys 5 years ago and they are having trouble claiming it. The cashback was to be claimed if you didn't make a claim within the 5 years. I have one of these policies and my claim is going to be for nearly £250 but it isn't due until September. Has anyone else had problems reclaiming and if you've managed to get your money did it go smoothly?

I had a similar situation with a company called Powerplan who insured electrical goods. If nothing went wrong in 5 years then you claim the money back. I think they were banking on people forgetting about it as you only had a small time-frame to get the claim in. The company went into Administration and the money is slowly trickling through. My claim was submitted 3 years ago.
I haven't seen this article or know anything about the Harvey's scheme, but in my experience I would never take one out again.

I bought my suite from Harveys and paid extra for Stainguard. If you didn't make a claim on the Stainguard policy then you got cashback after 5 years. Is that the same thing you are talking about?
Mine was for £250 too, I had no problem claiming or getting paid, but they were strict about the timeframe in which you could claim. I applied for my cashback the minute I was able to and they acknowledged receipt of my claim and then sent a cheque a few weeks later.0 -
Yes, I think there was a stainguard put on it and they said this was what you were paying for. It was a total rip-off as the suite was chenille fabric which we were told was, and I quote, 'extremely hard wearing and good for children'. After a month it was all plucked, the 'inspector' they sent out said it would go like that because of our choice of fabric!!! We sold it after 11 months for £500 (we paid £1600) because I'd had enough of the suite as well as Harveys. I have not set foot within a Harveys store since.:hello:0

Mine was chenille too, no problems with it. In fact we take the covers off regularly and chuck them in the washing machine.
You're not supposed to, the zips were only for fitting but we found out by accident (after our lad spilt blackcurrant juice on the chair) that we could peel off the cover and wash it wthout it shrinking 6 sizes. Since then we wash all the covers and even tumble dry them, lol.

Just resurrecting this post. The time has now come for me to claim my cashback. I've done the 'jumping through hoops' regarding the policy documents to send so we'll wait and see if I get my cheque. Fingers crossed! Has anyone else claimed their cashback recently (and more to the point received their cheque)?:hello:0
