Am I the only one who thinks it's moronic to scam people who know where you live?

    :rotfl: It is a bit!

FWIW, I do think £60 is a reasonable amount to pay to be unhappy with the result. I don't know if Gumtree have any contact page for issues (I assume they do). Perhaps you could contact them and ask them for a copy of the ad?

I have found the original advert through gumtree so at least have that. After having a look at all the pieces I have it also turns out I have no wardrobe doors!!!!

I've left the seller a couple of voicemails too and have said if he does not contact me by the weekend I will go to his house to discuss the matter face to face.

I have no idea why he would try to scam me, he lives in a big house in an expensive part of the city and had 3 nice cars on the drive. He offered me a cup of tea when we went to collect and actually said if we had any problems with it to contact him to which I replied " I know where you live"

That's shocking! I can understand no handles maybe, possibly a hinge or a screw missing, but no doors? No, that's not a wardrobe! If you do go confront him, take someone with you to discreetly film the exchange just in case he gets confrontational.

If you have found the original advert, save it as a web page to your PC, or print it out so if it gets removed you will have a permanent copy. Actually, if you can print it, that might be a good idea to show him so he can't deny what it is he was selling.

I'm quite incensed on your behalf OP. What an idiot he is!

  • I have bought wardrobes before from Ikea and had to buy the shelves, hinges, handles and doors separately as the carcasses are the same, just the fittings that differ. This was ok with me as I knew what I was getting but can understand why you feel you have been misled.

As an aside, and sorry to go off topic, I had never bought from Ikea before so found it odd. I had to buy the carcass, then buy doors and then shelves. I had Ikea build it all for me as I had the big glass fronted sliderobes. The glass topped chest of drawers that is built into the wardrobe couldn't be opened at all, as it had no handles!

However, if seller had posted an ikea picture showing wardrobe was complete, then that is what the buyer should have received, whether or not it is worth going to small claims over is up to the buyer

Had to prise it open with a knife and go and buy handles.

Yeah I understand that on alot of the larger wardrobes at Ikea you only get the basic carcass, but I checked on the Ikea website and it says all the things are missing should be included :-/ and the fact that I have no doors means I have been totally ripped off!!
  • I am intrigued.... as so much is missing was it not apparent that the package was too thinly padded out? To have doors missing and 4 shelves (if I understand you correctly) would mean a fair bit of 'wood' not in the box.

Sounds liek something may have been purchased from bargain corner tbh.
He may have had it for a while and not checked it over himdself.

There were 2 large boxes that were sealed and neither one seemed to be missing anything, we did not check because once the boxes were opened there would have been no chance of getting the wood back in therefore making it more difficult to transport. Even if we had opened it I doubt we would have realised that doors were missing but would have noticed the screw and handles etc.

Will go to his house on Monday if I don't receive a reply by tomorrow.

I just called the seller from a friends phone and guess what? He answered straight away. He then told me He sold me the wardrobe in sealed boxes so it was all there and I'm basically lying about parts being missing, he told me he no longer lived at the address and I can attempt to take him to small claims court.

Not sure what to do next? Any advice will be much appreciated!!
