Son`s account been fraudulently used

You didn't tell us whether the card is still in your son's possession, or if not, whether and when (relative to the fraudulent transactions) he reported it as lost/stolen to the bank.
Obviously you don't owe this information to a public forum, but it would most likely help people to comment further.0 -

Strangely enough there is a cash deposit made at a branch?? so i am not sure if the accounts have been mixed up somehow with some1 elses account.
Some kind of error by the bank certainly sounds plausible.
However, the bank ought to be putting your son's account back where it should have been and making a modest payment for distress and inconvenience.0 -

Not a chance with card payments, going to the wrong acc. Over counter payment. Yes if staff read acc wrong, possible if wonga got acc details wrong.
Still does not add up though.
If Barclays do not believe what they are being told, then PSD does cover not refunding.
At this point the loss stands with the op' son. as such if I was op, I would be taking son and reporting it to the police.
Cloaned card... Not seen one of them used for petrol since tesco made their UPT's chip & pin. That must be about 5 years ago.
Op says son was at school in london and transactions were in nottingham. Does OP live in london or does son just go to school there and they live elsewhere.
Have barclays confirmed that the transactions were in nottingham? As ofter a retailer will use head office as location and not actual site.
Which branch was the cash paid into?
Card status? Was it stopped last time, has it been stopped now? Does son have it?
I see enough fraud on accounts to know how fraudsters operate. This does not fit with anything your average fraudster would do.
I would agree with Innovate, that bullying is a possible cause. But there is not enough information here to make any sort of informed decision.
Barclays hold ALL the cards as they know the full details of where, when and how the transactions were made.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

In the fraud department where i work, if card payments debit after a card has been stopped, they appear on a suspense account and are manually moved to the account. So card payments can be debited to the wrong account simply by typing in the wrong customers details.
I agree with all the other points.0 -
Fraudulent Wonga payments into an account are quite common.
They are done by the fraudster to refill the bank account so he can steal more money.
The card will have been cloned (or the Chip & Pin terminal itself), unless your son is actually responsible for the fraud.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
Why on earth wasn't the card concerned cancelled immediately after the first "fraud" occured?

Any chance that if a fraudster has found a viable account then the cash deposit could be a way of filtering illegal funds ie money laundering., or perhaps a way of depositing stolen cheques? Whatevers going on that account needs to be closed and a New one opened. Its been compromised every which way0

With all the hassle, i would just closed the account n start again with some other bank (whoever keeps taken money) will soon see their a-s-s lul.• HSBC (Main A/C)
• Halifax Back up A/C
• Lloyds (Spending) A/C
• RBS Back up A/C
• Barclays Old A/C
• Nationwide Old A/C0 -

True, but the OP said that they reported the same thing before. So the chance of this are very slim.
Couple that with over counter and wonga payment into account...
Chances ????
I would not bet on that.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0
