Emails~Suddenly getting one for every post

on a thread I am subcribed too instead of just one until I come back to MSE IYSWIM?
Any ideas what I can do?
This has just happenned in the last week or so.
As I am subscribed to a few threads this is a bit of a problem.

For threads where you have an "Instant notification by email" subscription you will get an email notification instantly whenever anyone makes a post. So you may get a lot of emails for busy threads.

The solution is simple. Go to the thread in question. Go to the "Thread Tools" menu at the top of the screen and choose "Unsubscribe from this Thread". Then go to the "Thread Tools" menu again and choose "Subscribe to this Thread" in order to create a new subscription. This time select either "Daily updates by email" or "Weekly updates by email" as the subscription type. This will collate information about a number of new posts into one email. And result in fewer emails coming into your inbox. Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot MSE Ian for taking the time to reply.
It used to be that you only got one email notification for each thread until you returned to MSE so that must have changed recently.

There may be other replies also, but you will not receive any more notifications until you visit the forum again.
This is what it still says when you get the email.

Yes we changed the system recently.

In practice the previous system was inconsistent. It worked differently depending on the user and their particular way of using the forums. That caused confusion. We even received reports that for some users the system wasn't working at all.

Now the system is more consistent, reliable, and straightforward. "Instant notification by email". That's what you get. It does exactly what it says on the tin .
