Nationwide, how long?

I was approved online for a Nationwide Cash+ Bank Account on Monday (that is their basic bank account). I phoned them today to confirm the card etc is on its way and they said the account is not opened. It is pending.

Is this normal?

    Yes as they will send you out paperwork you have to sign and send back to them with any ID requests they may want.

    Once this is done they will check it and then if they are happy they will fully open the account it can take 7 to 10 days after they have received all necessary paperwork for the account to be opened.

    It takes most banks a normal 5 to 10 days to open any account once they have all the paperwork they need.

    In this case being patient would certainly be advisable!!!

    Hi, Daughter did same as you saturday gone, and her letter, a/c number on it landed on doormat tuesday morning, to sign and return, with proof of id, in the same stamped addressed envelope;
  • I called them and they said account is opened with no need for ID, debit card has been sent out in its purple glory. They gave me my account number and sort code there and then over the phone

    Are you sure they usually send out a letter asking for a signature before they send out all the details? Its so that when you go into branch they can check your signature against the one they have on record.

    Yes it is normal to wait

    Unless the customer services staff who gave me the sort code and account number is on hallucinogenic drugs then of course I am sure it is true. How else would I have been able to obtain the account details just like that?
  • my Dad has now applied to Nationwide. He has OK but not great credit. They have told him that he has been accepted for a "Flex Account - Cash Card only." They said he will not be able to have any direct debits or outgoing electronic payments on his account. Has anyone heard of such an account at Nationwide? It's clearly not the Cashcard+ as that one allows Direct Debits etc
  • Me smells porkies because everyone waits for paperwork with NW on that account.

    Well clearly they don't! Maybe the fact I have instant savings account with Nationwide already means they don't mean to ID check me

    I just said that in my post, methinks,he,s been on the drugs;
    NW , if nothing, are, efficient at paperwork;;;;too much so.I,ve been with them 35 years.
    I wouldn,t like a bank a/c that I had NOT signed for;
  • My Dad's called back and it turns out they've accepted him for the Cashcard+ as well and he CAN have Direct Debits etc. In his case though he's got to sign some kind of terms and conditions that are arriving in the post and he's got to take his passport and utility bill into a branch. They also told him that after running the account for a certain amount of time he may be able to upgrade to a full Flex
