  • So doesn't need a postbox. Not the end of the world, surely, but as others have said, a symptom of things being done on the cheap with second hand doors....

To comply with building regulations your "new" door needs to have a U-value of 1.8 or less. The letter box is not important.

front doors are just as safe as back doors, if not safer..

but thanks for ur comment :)

Surely you were asking what a buyer's perception would be ......and yes I'd be looking for other things after seeing a back door with a letterbox too. It might certainly put SOME buyers off -especially if the rest of the house has anything else "questionable" too.

  • Of course some people might not even notice and as far as u-values go, is anybody gonna know you've changed your back door.

I'd probably think "hmmm, that's weird, there's a letterbox in the back door" then think no more about it tbh. It certainly wouldn't factor in my decision whether or not to buy somewhere, and I wouldn't be making assumptions/conspiracy theories about it.

If a letterbox is all you have to worry about I'd say the house must be great! If only I had a letterbox in the back door to worry about with the house I'm currently trying to buy.
  • If they ask, say it's so you can put an extension lead through for mowing the lawn / hose for watering, etc.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • Makes me think "Tatty bodge job" !
I'd also be wondering if it would let draughts in.
If the rest of the house was ideal it wouldn't put me off though. It would depend what else was available that was suitable.
