Hi, I think this might be 'Payment Protection Cover' rather than 'Payment Protection Insurance'.. I'm not sure what the difference is (if any), but it happened to me. I was paying it for a while, when I noticed it I asked for it to be removed. I noticed it had reappeared again recently.

I again asked for it to be removed and also for an explanation on why it had returned which they couldn't give me (I 100% did not request for this to be added!)

I haven't followed it up, but I'm having all sorts of issues with Lloyds at the moment so I think I will be bringing this up with my other complaints..
  • Hi, I had the same notations on my statements and claimed for misselling of PPI. I was advised that Cardholder Protection is not PPI by a number of people on this site but I stuck with it and after a very long fight which included paying £10 for a SAR for all of my information, I was successful as a copy of the original application form for the credit card was sent to me by Lloyds where it quite clearly showed that I took out "Payment Protection Insurance" with the card. The statements then showed the payments were in respect of "Cardholder Protection" which adequately demonstrates that they are the same thing. Don't give up, I would suggest you look at the information to request a SAR and get the information from Lloyds themselves (when I first put in my claim Lloyds denied that I had PPI).
  • Thank you for the info above. I too have received a letter from Lloyds TSB stating that it was not PPI on the plan but Cardholder Protection Cover for if my card was stolen. Why would I want to pay in excess of £20 a month for this when it would be covered statutory under the Consumer Credit Act 1974???

I rang the PPI people at Lloyds TSB who put me through to Card Services. Card Services have admitted that the Cardholder Protection was a form of PPI and that they would re-look at the claim. Fingers crossed!

It is not a form of PPI. Indeed, it has nothing in common with PPI. Where do they get these staff members from.

  • I have statements from lloyds bank - jan 2000 with a variable charge which changed names in october 2004 from Cardholder protection plan to payment protection insurance - therefore i strongly believe they are the same.

Card Protection Plan is a name for PPI - their helpline denied this but they payments vary each month and correspond to 0.79 per £100. When questioned the PPI helpline could not say what benefits were available with the Card Protection Plan. Lloyds Credit Card Services say this is another name for PPI from around 2003/2004. We have all the statements which show a variable amount being charged

My OH has just had his complaint upheld by FOS and we await Lloyds response. As Lloyds have just been caught automatically rejecting valid claims on the basis that most people give up after an initial rejection I would not believe what they say.

The confusion comes from there being two versions of Cardholder Protection. There is the one that Lloyds [and others] called Cardholder Protection, which was PPI, and charged at a rate per £100, then there is Cardholder Protection which was a one off yearly payment made to Card Services or Sentinel for around £20 which was supposed to protect you in the vent of your cards being stolen and used.

    You can complain about both.
