New kitchen needed - help?

even tradesmen make mistakes?
so do amateurs, even more so
'taking a diy course' will not equip you with the skills necessary to fit a kitchen as well as an experienced fitter, end of story."The reasonable man adapts to the world,
The unreasonable man adapts the world to himself,
Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man."0 -
I bought a Poggenpohl when I first bought my house back in 1978 it is a still as good as new(well almost) the then cost was 25% of the house price so I would not like to buy another it would be over 100K. Since then I have bought and fitted kitchens for my children mostly from Ikea good kitchens but nowhere near as good as Poggenpohl, the moral is you can pay as little or as much as you want for a kitchen its value for money and each level of cost creates a new set of statistics.

Thanks very much everyone - there's some useful stuff there.
Ikea certainly seems to be the cheapest, and the units up to the ceiling and 10 year guarantee is tempting...
Does anyone know if you can 'integrate' freestanding appliances?
I have a Miele dishwasher that I want to keep, but as it's white, it is affecting any choice finishes...
thanks

I'm sure you could have a door fitted on your dishwasher but you can't integrate normal frides/freezerstravelover0

Hi Shona, there is a way to do it. Basic appliances are 600 x 600 so you have to buy appliance housing base units and the worktop will have to be 650 depth. The other units along the run will have to be brought forward. You need these as you have to hang the door on something. So basically you are buying a unit to put the freestanding appliance in and worktop to cover. Hope this makes sense!0 -
Ikea - we're on our second one & the guys we used to fit them hadn't done Ikea before - now THEY recommend them to their customers!!
& don't forget to download the free kitchen planner, from their website - a bit fiddly, but it'll show how to fit everything, including existing appliances, in the correct place.
Also, as I'm always going on about, get an Ikea Homecard, it's free & you get it i store instantly, for 5% off your first purchase. So pile up your trolly with all the other stuff you need, too!
& it gets you free cup of t each visit!!

Both my Sister and Mother have recently had new kitchens fitted. They had Avanti kitchens form an Avanti clearance place. The quality was good and they were both pretty cheap. My mom's was to replace a fire damaged kitchen and the new Avanti one cost less than the Wickes one from 5 years ago and looks nicer. It's my problem, it's my problem

Thanks for that - I found their website and ordered a brochure. The kitchens do look nice - I hope they do wall units that go up to the ceiling to save dusting!!

for integrating free standing appliances technically you cant do and need custom made kitchens. for eg a 600 washer into a 600 gap and door would move around too much and require extra depth. we get 650 extra deep units made and hey presto free standing into integrated. our property developer clients love this as it saves them loads of money. so it can be done but not with ikea b&q and similar. also they are all not great quality kitchens see Poggenpohl post even though i think they are vastly overpriced0

You would also have to extend the gables at the end of the run. Could get the appliance housing units cheaper than Poggenpohl though, but definately not from a "flat pack" company, they would definately have to come from a company that make their own as ozkin says.0
