OP, i think your flipflop idea is good, though probably a basket with a few rather than for every guest (some may have thought comfort over fashion..not everyone will!).

Suki - i like the pic with the white flipflops with flowers :) what i had in mind when the OP mentioned it.

Caroline_a - very true, a personalised thank you card/note is much better IMHO, and i always remember them when im given them!

I personally live in flip flops (until it's time for boots again) and I'm afraid even I wouldn't wear a pair of flip flops given to me at a wedding because I imagine anything you can buy for £1 is going to be in a nasty colour.

If they were black, no problem!

I do not like them myself because I hate the post in between my toe, but I do know that lots of people do like them.

OP I thought of you the other day when I was in Home Bargains. They had black ones with pink on that looked quite glam. They were nicely presented in a good quality plastic bag and came with charms as well, and all for £1.

You'd need to check if there were any older or disabled guests who just wouldn't be able to walk in the damn things...I certainly couldn't!

    I think it's a daft idea.
  • Going slightly off the subject, at the dinner dances I go to, traditionally the ladies get a gift but budgets usually dictate that these gifts cost no more than £5.......and there is only so much you can buy for £5.

At the last one, it was announced that the money that would have been spent on these gifts was being donated to charity and do you know what ....nearly every woman breathed a sigh of relief at the thought of not having to take another x y or z home.

  • I did this but not as favours, just put them in a wicker basket with a note for the evening reception for the ladies to have a dance in more comfortable shies - they went down a treat and then people took them home and most have used on the beach on hols etc

I got them from Primark, they were on 2 for £1.50 when I got them so depends on whether you get them on offer or not

The weddings I've been to have just had the usual sugared almonds as favours, must admit I hate them though. :o

My son is getting married next year up here in the north-east, his partners family are scattered all over the country and abroad so they're having little pots of pease pudding for favours. :D But there is a "Northern theme", they're having a posh reception with fancy food after the ceremony but a simple pie and pea supper for the night-time do. :D

The pease pudding won't be expensive because I'm making it, and I'm making their wedding cake too so they're going to have a cheese cake with crackers in the bar.

    ...Wow. Judgemental much?

I've read much of the wedding threads here over the last wee while. Used to post on the wedding boards too before my own wedding last year. Seems brides can't win. If they try to do something nice for their guests (eg flipflops or spare toiletries in the toilets) they're wrong. If they go abroad they're wrong. If they get married anywhere but the location their guests live, they're wrong, if they only have a buffet they're wrong, if they invite people to the evening only they're just after wedding presents and if they spend any money and have anything but a private ceremony that you go to on the bus, with 2 witnesses then obviously its all about the party.

How about just accepting that some people like different things and as long as nobody is being unreasonable (omg someone wants to buy flip flops in case their guests feet hurt from dancing - how very evil. She must just want a party!), then either offer help or keep quiet . The OP asked on a moneysaving site if anyone knew where to get cheap flip flops. Its hard enough organising a wedding and juggling everyone else's expectations without getting flamed for asking a question.

There was a flip flop basket at a wedding I attended recently I thought it a great idea, I was in flats anyway, but they all got used and many ladies were very pleased for them!

Hi, I saw some £1+ flip-flops by going via the Amazon Bargains section on this actual website. they are brand names like Roxy, O’Neil. There is a site in China called sammy's dress you can put in a wholesale enquiry in for them. Alternatively you could give Wine glass charms to guests which sit around the stem of a wine/champagne glass so everyone knows whose glass is whose. Guests can take theirs home afterwards and reuse time and again. They would work out cheaper than a pair of actual flip flops. Feel free to get in touch with me about them. Another site called new frog may be worth checking out for bargain flip-flops.
Best wishes for the big day!
