Transfer of name on mobile phone account

Hi All

Just looking for a bit of advice re transferring names on an account.

Having a bit of a debate on this and here is is the scenario being discussed:

Person A (A) has very poor credit rating, CCJ's, defauts etc and wants a mobile phone but cant get a contract due to poor credit. A wants Person B (B) to get a phone contract for them in B's name and is A is telling B that after one month B can transfer the name of the accounts and the DD details etc to A.

Can this be done or would the phone co do a credit check on person A?

I would have thought a check would be done as this could be a way which could be exploited by many with poor credit who cant get a contract on their own?

Thanks

The phone company will do a credit check even if it's a transfer
It's not just about the money

Does the person (A) know that there are other ways of getting a mobile phone besides a contract? They seem to have not learned any lessons from "CCJs, defaults, ets."

followed quickly by Person A, falls out with Person B.. cancels the direct debit \ stops paying the bill and Person B then left with a contract they didnt want...

Not the case if the contract was really transferred to the person (A) name, that was the point of the OP.

So what odds would you give on a network agreeing to that transfer within 30 days? Flying pigs are more likely !!!!

If person B really is that stupid to do this, then keep the new phone until a sucessful transfer of the contract.

But obviously person B should tell idiot A to do one!!

Agreed. After replying I did realise that this was the pessimistic scenario...

I work for a telecommunications company so can answer this best.

Firstly, I cannot see them, whichever company you choose, transferring it officially as Person B will never pass there credit check.

Having said this, they can transfer both the direct debit details, and point of contact for the contract into Person B's name.

If this is done then it will still fall on Person A to ensure the contract is upheld, and paid by Person B.

If Person B misses payments, or decides to welch altogether, then the responsibility will befall Person A, to ensure the contract is paid in full, and/or it will negatively affect Person A's credit rating.

    Hope this helps.
