Tacolneston (Norfolk) TV Transmitter

Does anyone know when the Tacolneston (Norfolk) TV Transmitter is to be fixed?

Since a severe storm over the hole area in May my TV reception has been patchy to say the least.

At first I could only get BBC channels for a week or so then only ITV channels and now for sometime all the channels but no sound.

I can not contact these bu**ers and consider the service extremely poor at best.

Is this another case of NFN (Normal for Norfolk)

It is now so bad I am considering stopping paying for my TV Licence as the service is non-existent.

The Tacolneston transmitter covers 330,000 homes and is currently working normally apart from analogue radio, which may possibly be weak due to engineering works this week, so I would suggest that the problem is at your end. Are you 100% sure that your aerial and equipment is working correctly?

The first thing I checked was all the leads even returned and got checked set top box checked the TV also just been checked out by a service centre all OK - so that is why it must be the transmitter.

What 'espresso ' says sounds like a typical 'the establishment' answer and we all know 'the establishment' can not be trusted they will away try and cover up!

So what about your aerial and downlead? How far are you from the transmitter and what type of aerial do you have e.g. internal, external, number of elements etc.

If there was a problem with the transmitter, do you not think that other people served by it would not have noticed and it would be on local news, media etc.

You are deluded, the problem is at your end!

  • I afraid I am with the establishment side in this case , you said there was storm over the whole area , your aerial/downlead could be the problem. Are the neighbours getting similar problems ...

Don't forget as well that the signal can be too strong as well as too weak. Digital is funny like that. Do you have any boosters and if so, have you considered removing them? Is the fault identical on all of your tvs/tuners?

In one room in my house I get a poor TV signal and I have exactly the same problem, scan and it's missing all the BBC channels, rescan and it finds the BBC channels but E4 and ITV had disappeared. Therefore I am inclined to say you have a problem with something in your aerial and it's not receiving a good signal.

If it was a problem with the transmitter then all the houses would have the problem esp you next door neighbours, and there would be a massive outcry esp in the media.

do you have boosters on it? it could be a problem with the wire in the walls.

You have given no details about your aerial, which may no longer be suitable after the digital switchover.

What signal strength and signal quality is displayed by your set top box?

In your first post you mentioned "a severe storm over the hole area in May", so how do you know that your aerial is still correctly aligned towards the transmitter?

It is NOT the transmitter at fault here but don't let the facts get in the way!

I have retuned the set top box over and over again many times the Aerial does not appear to have moved and is in exactly the same position as before and the same as other neighbouring properties.

It is possibly not so that there would be an outcry as this is Suffolk and NFS rules apply and people here don't complain like in other parts of the country where they seem to have a perm. grump.

People around here take things in their stride.
