What's the best S&S ISA for a UK Index Fund

Hey guys!

I'm looking to take out a UK Index Tracker Fund and loop it in with a S&S ISA.

Is it possible to take out a Vanguard Fund (currently the cheapest fee's which I know of) and some how link that with my Nationwide account?

Or would I have to take out a bank based fund such as the tracker fund which nationwide offers (which charges a higher fee).

FYI I am looking to invest a lump sum of £10,000

Many thanks,

Sam

Investments are not savings. You cannot link them at this time (although some platforms have introduced or are introducing savings accounts and fixed term deposits to be held on platform).

That is a very expensive option as the Nationwide versions are so much more expensive than the retail versions. Bank & B/society funds are traditionally either more expensive or poor quality. Often both.

One assumes that you are not putting 100% into the UK tracker fund. That would be awful investing.

You need to choose a provider that offers the investments that you want. Vanguard do not pay any commissions to the provider. So, you would need to use a platform which charges you explicitly for their services. For smaller investments, it may be better to look at a platform which offers Blackrock Class D trackers or HSBC trackers and do not incur explicit charges or one that currently cross subsidises trackers from the managed funds (if you plan to make no changes in future).

Cavendish offer the HSBC and BlackRock funds. They aren't quite as cheap for annual charges as Vanguard but they also don't have other charges either.

As per Dunstonh, how does this lump sum fit into your overall portfolio? We can answer your question "which is cheapest Uk tracker" but that isn't necessarily what you should be doing.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.
  • vanguard etfs are what you're looking for - use tddirectinvesting regular investment option and trade for £1.50 - and no charges for the platform - simples

    fj

btw don't invest in a single index fund you can't do worse than the classic equities, property, bonds, cash model

and the mix would be your age minus 100 as a percentage for equities, 5% in cash (isa) and split the remainder in bonds and gilts

equities split equally ftse100 ftse250 and world index

    and there you have it
