Well that was interesting....... neither the credit card nor the bank account I applied for went through but it was probably because you need an account with Natwest to get their credit card, and I didn;t have one till AFTER i applied for the cc. Stupid website.
Good news is I now have a new bank account I need to go into branch to activate (no drivers licence or passport, too poor to afford a holiday or a car do never bothered renewing either) with as much paperwork as I can get my paws on. Bank account comes with an offer of a £4000 overdraft, which I don't want or need, and I made sure it isnt on my account, but it shows that for some peculiar reason my credit file fits nicely into Natwest's little demographicwhich means that although the credit card was "declined due to checks" it wasnt declined due to credit file, and lady on file reckons it was a hiccup because my bank account isn't quite technically open yet so I don't quite make the required hoops to have jumped through. She suggested trying again in store when I've activated the account, and as little as I like to believe banks, I'm inclined to believe her, as she said the card was not declined due to credit reference, it was something on the checklist.
SO all is not lost,
although I am now really late for getting ready for teaching!!!!!!!

Swings and roundabouts, eh?
I've got at least some of my new timetable through, and I'm already £50 a month better off :j:j
And that's all for me now, time to go and teach!

Me, resisting the urge to say what I really think, uncontrollably stares at her, before forcing myself to open my mouth and reply "yes I do know that" she offers me two brands of poppy seeds, neither of which she can check for contamination, so I stop her incessant rambling, tell her I'll buy something online, and leave, muttering.
My great nephew has recently been diagnosed with Coeliac and by all accounts has it quite bad, the trouble getting decent food stuffs at a decent price amazes me, unfortunately his mum is only young and it has been a struggle to adjust, but they are getting there, he is only just 4 and a bit so a long way to go, but he has improved no end since we found out and cut out the problem foods.Been here for a long time and don't often post

Oh I do feel for her and her son, my daughter had it quite bad too and its only after a year on the gluten free diet that she's really looking healthier and feeling much better. Having said that, she felt immediately better by small degrees, and I'm sure your nephew is in this group too.
Coeliac disease is surprisingly expensive to cater for, but there are ways of doing things cheaper than others - as much home cooking as humanly possible is one! Shopping at Asda is anotherPhil Vickery has an amazing couple of cook books available, one of which has such a good recipe for Yorkshire Puddings that I can barely taste the difference.
Incidentally, as your nephew is young enough to appreciate this one, get his mum to ask for Barkat animal pasta on prescription, it is AWESOME! Little ducks made out of corn, and if she's in the stupid sort of mood I was in one day, she can cook the pasta, strain a can of beans, save the beans for something else ( I use them in chilli as we both hate kidney beans), and serve the two mixed up together on gluten free toast - it's an amazing kids altenative to those little tins of cartoon character pasta that he can't have any more, and it costs next to nothing :j
I'm happy to help with gluten free questions if you have any, I've not been doing this long, but I come from a background of food intolerances/vegan diets/etc etc etc and I've pretty much picked it all up super fast and as budgety as I think I can get it.
P.S. Being diagnosed coeliac is a good thing, your nephew sounds like he was terribly ill, a GF diet is such a simple way to feel so much better and get healthy again. Both me and my daughter view her diagnosis as a positive thing, the difference in her health from the diet is extraordinary
Edit: P.P.S It's always worthwhile being stubborn and arguing about prescription food. Almost everytime I have to have contact with an actual person (outside of a repeat prescription) at the GP surgery with a request for an item, I get told "you can't get that any more, it was taken off the prescribable foods list". I'm so used to this by now, I think I actually sound bored when I respond... "no it hasn't, x y and z has been taken off, but not this. I read the coeliac society bulletins, and this is allowed. So I'd like 4 of them please" I always get what I wanted, but they always try it on, it's pathetic really, the last attempt was for pizza bases, I just said "no. they're still on. I orderded 2", she argued, I repeated "no, they're still on", she argued, I repeated "no. they're still on" she huffed and wrote me out a prescription.
Oh and don't go to Boots, they're awful. Find a little independant chemist who actually knows their way around the foods wholesalers!

Thank you!!!! and no you're not an idiot hahahahaha!!!
I've off to the bank tomorrow, I think I have enough ID to warrant them not chucking that stupid rule about needing driving licence or passport. I have 25 items. Including a enhanced disclosure CRB check, I would have thought that's a pretty conclusive ID check that I own there :rotfl:

Before I go to bed tonight, I thought I'd try the official snowball calulator, see if their calculations offer me anything I hadn't worked out,.
I got this message - "The snowball plan could not be generated because you do not have sufficient money available to meet your minimum monthly debt repayments of 5716 pounds."
Thank **** THAT'S a mistake!
Edit: I still can't work out where it went wrong. But I have a nice bottle of homemade sloe gin in the kitchen, and that'll fix this problem just as well

I can scarcely believe I am writing this, but I just got a finalised timetable through from my boss, and I have 4 new students, which takes my debt repayment amount up to £733, an astronomical and, quite frankly, crazy, figure. Of course, I would need to factor in tax into that, but I'm not looking at that until I've paid this year's tax bill on last year's income (which was considerably lower) which is already built into my SOA. I'll adjust it accordingly in February.
My God.
Im speechless.

I often find myself wondering how on earth I managed to get myself into this level of debt when I have this much cash potentially left over each month to pay debt off. And then I remind myself a few things...
1) it's perfectly possible to get into debt even on very high earnings (which mine aren't, but I've seen some on this board)
2) I made a major career push 2 years ago and it's been paying off the last year.
3) proof of which is... Tax bill 2 years ago was £90
Tax bill last year was £250
Tax bill for January is £900
Predicted tax bill for January 2014 is (gulp)
£3500
That sort of explains it the situation a bit better!
