Value instant coffee - any good ones?

I don't drink coffee - personally I can't stand the stuff! But, I have a friend who visits regularly who only drinks black coffee, no sugar (in case it makes a difference?!)
I used to buy Nescafe (that's what they normally drink), but it's getting a bit expensive (they drink gallons!) So, I wondered if a coffee drinker here (not connoisseur - I don't think my friend's tastebuds are that great:)) would be able to tell me the best value coffee - basically one that's not like dishwater, that doesn't make it obvious that I'm a complete tightwad?
(I wouldn't appreciate a cup of dishwater tea at their house, so I feel obliged to reciprocate!)

Value coffee is not to my taste, it tastes burnt or just plain rank! Lol
What about just buying a stores own? I find the gold range is ok and tastes just like naffcaf gold blend. I don't like the normal naffcaf or roasted coffee more of a Kenco drinker or proper coffee myself.0 -
I always buy the Tesco Own - not the value but the standard. I always used to drink nothing but Nescafe, but went onto that one about 3 years ago and am quite happy with it - and I am fussyDon't Panic - and carry a towel

I also buy Tesco Gold if Nescafe isnt on offer
Personally I dont like value but I wouldnt say soemthing if I was given it at a friends house0 -
Poundstretcher have 200g jars of Nescafe International Roast (their catering brand) for £2.59.
I also like my coffee black without sugar, and was very pleasantly surprised. It's not quite so bitter as the Nescafe Extra Strong they used to sell.
The only problem with Poundstretcher is that supply can be a bit sporadic, so I just keep a spare jar.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
I don't drink coffee either but if I were in your position, I'd probably try mixing a cheaper brand in with the Nescafe and if your friend didn't notice, then I'd keep gradually decreasing the Nescafe. Many a mickle makes a muckle.0

Morissions value coffee is by far the best I have tasted.0 -
The nescafe blends that you get in poundstretcher are really rank imo. But it's personal taste. My mother drinks nothing but nescafe and can't drink these ones, she does quite like both tesco and asda's gold blend. It's been in her coffee tub at home now for a couple of weeks and she's not noticed the difference
Tweets, as a coffee junkie, I would be able to tell. Cheap value brands can be tasted a mile away. However the shops' own gold blend I have mentioned are pretty good4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
I switched to the Tesco Gold Blend version and love it
I detest cheap coffee, especially the ones they sell in Home Bargains etc. Vile!* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *

I went through a phase of buying the sainsburys value, but that was when I had lots of milk to take away the bitterness (nastiness) of it - it's not particularly nice black. It's definitely nicer than the tesco value stuff though
How about sending off for the freebies that are on occassionally (e.g. kenco millicano etc) - it won't do for all of the time, but better than nothingFinal cigarette smoked 02/01/18
