Saxmagic how about getting in touch with English Heritage/National Trust? I'm about to book my wedding at a 13th Century priory with Historic Scotland for £400 (ceremony only, but some places do the whole package)?
Got a job at Inchmahome Priory, woooooooooo!! :D

  • We had a marquee for our wedding, but saved a fortune over the usual marquee costs. We got married at The Inn at Whitewell, near Clitheroe in Lancashire, and as they have their own marquee for weddings, parties, etc. it is charged out at something like £500 for the day! This is about 10% of the normal price of an equivalent marquee. And what's even better is that you can stagger into the hotel and off to bed at the end of the night :)

We would definitely recommend the Inn at Whitewell to anyone planning their wedding in the North West!
  • This is the poem i've decorated with a border and few pretty graphics. Ive printed them off onto cream card and popped them in with the invites instead of a wedding gift list

    Ode To Gift List's

    In a wedding invitation,
    You usually find some lists,
    For venues, menus and hotels,
    And also for the gifts
    But this one is unusual,
It comes in a different way,
As we're not asking for presents,
    But for something else today
Now please don't think we're selfish,
Or that this comes from greed,
But we've lived together for a while,
So there's not that much we need
    We would appreciate help though,
To send us on our way,
And allow us to have our honeymoon,
In a land quite far away
So now the point of all this rhyme,
The thing that we would like,
    Isn't towels, toasters or microwaves,
    But pounds and pence alike
And now you know the reason,
    Behind this cheeky accord,
Please help to give us memories,
    Of a dream honeymoon abroad!
If your intention, We shall mention
A gift is what you wish to give
    Please suprise us with something
    (of your own choice)
for which we need to live!

I like it! We are in a similar situation so I may have to do something like that!
Someone asked a while ago on this thread how you do a honeymoon as a wedding list' item.
Friends of ours did theirs through 'Trailfinders' so that could be one option :)
  • hey guys, I'm in need of some help with a venue, i live in Poole so been looking around here but everywhere i find say you have to have the sit down meal, were looking for somewhere we could maybe have a later ceremony so that we only have to serve food once! and somewhere at a reasonable price everywhere i look is just too expensive! any ideas???

I'm not quite sure if you mean youre having probs with a ceremony venue and that you need to find somewhere who will conduct the ceremony later, or youre having difficulty finding a reception venue that'll allow you to have a buffet rather than a sit down and/or they wont let you bring in your own caterers?

  • hey, sorry i probably didn't make it very clear, well were looking for somewhere we could have a ceremony around 3pm then a buffet after for all our guests, were not bothered about not being able to bring in our own caterers if the venue can supply food at a reasonable price, were on quite a tight budget we hopefully want to keep the whole wedding under £5000, we did look at sopley mill which looks lovely but there website confused me a bit so think i will give them a ring and talk about prices:eek:
  • Hi - have been reading this blog for about a year (no kidding) its been invaluable whilst trying to arrange a money saving wedding. My problem is that I cannot find a shop anywhere near where either myself or my parents live, which stocks sample wedding gowns above a 12?!
I live in Sheffield, and my parents North London, and I travel between the two often. I am around a size 18 in bridal gowns. Im hoping someone could give me some advice as Im losing all confidence with it now. Every shop I have set foot in has been either really rude and/or have tiny samples. I have been left in my underwear on the shop floor in some cases! I have been sneered at by moody shop assistants who cant be bothered to even try to help me into dresses, some just held dresses against me or put the dress on and left it gaping at the back!
Am I the only one who is really frustrated with stroppy shop assistants/owners?!
Sorry not really a money saving question but is driving me nuts!!
    Thanks in advance x

    Hi
I have just come accross this and thought I would mention Celebrations, in Ossett, Wakefield - the have a website called CelebrationsBridalShop (havent been able to post a link so hope you find it from this) they stock all dresses in all sizes. Both my sisters bought their dresses from here & I am going to look for my dress there next week. The staff are really friendly and very proffesional - maybe try here as Ossett isnt far from Sheffield - just junction 39 off the M1. Good luck xxx

Whilst I am on here and its my first post - does anyone have any experience of not using a photographer and just relying on their friends cameras and disposable ones that you left on the tables? I don't really want the "staged photos" that you usually get from a proffessional photographer, and want to save £500+ on paying for this as well. Just wondered if the consenus from anyone who has done this before was that it worked or not?? We are getting married in October this year. Many thanks

Hi there - I've heard that you can buy flowers relatively cheaply at Covent Garden. Has anyone done this? I've looked at their website+it seems that you have to be a florist to buy there. Any tips?

    Hi Kumari1982

I went Covent Garden market early last saturday and it was great.

I am having calla lillies which are £1.50 per stem and bear grass £1.00 per bunch does about 4/5 vases which means it will cost me £33 for 10 tables played about with flowers i bought. when i can sort out my camera will up load.

dont need to be a florist to go they but get there early as lots of choice.
charge £4 to get in with your car.i guess free if you walk in.

    Hope this helps

big bunches of tulips where £15 and a bunch of roses with about 10 roses was £10.

I also found ask different suppliers how much as they all charge slightly different,

Good Luck everyone has said my table deco look lovely and elegant :)

How about getting married at the Guildhall in the latest ceremony they do, then going to one of the restaurants on Poole Quay for a buffet, that might work out cheaper?
