My name is Claire and I am getting married 30th May 2009.:T
A week after me! It's great that you've got so much help, you'll have an amazing day.
So far we've booked the ceremony/day reception hall, the celebrant, the evening reception venue, a photographer (found a reasonably priced one on Gumtree, who does some great photos) and had a site visit to the daytime venue from the caterers who are able to do a barbecue for us. I thought I had found a dress in Coast but the second time I tried it it didn't fit right and my mum tactfully suggested I tried a different style.
OH busying himself with creating a playlist on iTunes...Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

Hey there everyone.
This is my first time , But ive been reading this for the last hour. I finally got the BF to set a date (been engaged now for 4 years) We're thinking early next year, And i really dont know when or where to start. We sort of on a budget.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. :j0 -
Hi everyone,
I just got engaged on Saturday so I have been reading this thread to get some tips and there's some great ideas! Love the cupcake stands!
We're hoping to get married early 2009 to give us some time to get some money and plans together. Vague plan is registry office, meal with close family and friends then a big party in the evening.
I'm a management accountant so of course first step is the budget!! I don't have a clue how much anything costs though so lots of investigating to do...
Can anyone recommend any venues in the York area that are good value? Thinking maybe a hotel for the evening do, maybe have the meal at the same place but we're totally open to ideas...
Might have to post my budget on here as well when it's taken shape to check that I haven't completely missed anything!
And for my first tip - we ordered my engagement ring from H Samuel on Saturday, £149, nice simple white gold with a diamond, and when you get the engagement ring from there they give you a voucher for 10% off the wedding rings.
Well I am sure I will become a regular contributor to this forum over the next few months!

My wedding is in August and I was wondering if anyone had a solution for cake stands? I love the cup cake ones but they are not quite right for what I need. My cake is going to be three tiers of cake from The Cheesecake Shop (two mud cakes and one banoffi pie - weird I know but these are our fav!!) and I have decorations but I am looking for a cake top (a figure of a groom and bride, something like that) for under £10 and also I really need some ideas for the cake stand. Does anyone have any advice about hiring them? I have tried ebay but they are £20+ and online I can't seem to find any for £30 or less. If someone had one I could borrow for the day, that would be ideal!! Otherwise, does anyone have any other suggestions - I was thinking to stack the cakes using pillars but I don't think this would be appropriate for mudcakes/banoffi pie!!! Thank you!!0

Have you tried asking in your local cake shop to see if they hire them out?
Or you could fork out for one off eBay and then sell it on after the wedding and get your money back...
Don't know about the cake toppers, we're not having bride and groom one's... You could always buy some fimo and make your own,...A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...My Fathers Daughter wrote: »Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

Hi Amyk,
Just a couple of ideas for you!
Cake stands, this website is really good, thinking about using it myself (getting married 29th/30th May 2009 Not sure yet!) Its a hire company but they have really good prices.

Also bride and groom cake toppers, I saw some in hobby craft, they were so lush! Didnt see a price but I remember thinking that they wernt a bad price (and im on a tight budget!)
