Okay... this isn't really a money saving thing, but I thought I'd ask your advice, seeing as there's so many of you seem to know what you're talking about when it comes to weddings!!!
I really want a Butterflies theme for my wedding next year, but can't find many Butterfly items anywhere? Any ideas?
And I'm also trying desperately to find somewhere in the UK that does Butterfly releases, but all I can find are places in America.... not much good.....!
It'd be great if anyone could help me out here!
    Thankyou!!!!! :)

You don't get rid of me that easily!   :P

I drifted onto this board looking for sensible tips on moneysaving and found everyone discussing buying presents for their ushers!  Has the world gone totally insane!  Buying a present for what?  Wearing a suit and handing out the service sheet at the church entrance?  Surely it is enough just to invite them to the wedding to get drunk and shag the bridesmaids?

I think that wedding magazines have a lot to answer for.  Almost everyone's weddings are exactly the same these days and no-one has any original ideas.  Its getting like all those people who have decking in their gardens because of a certain TV programme!

Still, I guess if it's what you want...

    Outa here!

    They come in different colours.

I have made bufferflies out of wire with beads on the feelers for the invitations.
I'll keep in touch with what else I find.

Thanks Sally! I think I may try and make my own too....! Did you use anything to make the wings, or just wire? Sorry, I'm not very creative.....! :-[

  • I just used wire. They are really easy to make but quite fiddly.
  • Hi Jellybabe,

Just to let you know Pilgrim jewellry have a butterfly range this season that is really nice. You maybe couldn't wear it yourself but it might be nice for the bridesmaids. I think the web site is pilgrim.dk but I'm not sure where you'd buy it because they don't sell it on their site. They might have a list of stockists though. :)

Oh and just a note about favours in case anyone is still looking for ideas, I'm going to donate the money to breast cancer research and give all the female guests the pink brooch. The men can do without!! ;)

Re favours, we had a vodka toast at our reception (my mother in law is Polish and I don't like champagne) so we got a load of shot glasses from a catering wholsalers and painted everyone's name and a heart on them.

Went down really well and it's lovely going to people's houses and seeing their shot glasses still displayed.

By the way, I'm not the least bit artistic and I painted 96 of these in a few hours (with only a few wasted).

For our stationary, we bought invitations from John Lewis and wrote them all out by hand, worked out at about 1/10th the cost of having them printed.
For our orders of service (thick booklets as whole Catholic serivce and lots of non catholic guests), we printed the middle bits at home, found some nice clip art to include as well. FOr the covers, we bought ivory coloured card and gold elastic from a craft place and stamped the front with an order of service stamp and a Celtic knot similar to the one on the invitations.
Took a couple of hours to put them together but we had a bit of a factory line going while watching telly so it was OK.

The main thing to do though is to make sure the day will be fun and not worry about all the stuff the magazines say you have to have. No one remembers what they ate or how may floral displays there were!

    The shot glasses sound great!

I've just thought that if anyone's printing their own stationery, it might be worth asking your workplace if you can order your card and paper through their stationery supplier. We've been able to do this and it's saved us a fortune, especially as the company gets an extra discount on everything. :)
