    [Bthen get yourself some training!

you cant moan that there are no jpbs available for you, if youre not prepared to make your skills match the jpbs that are there![/B]

I have looked into training, but it's seems its either a qualifications that takes 3-4 years to get, that might get me in a job but more likely they will want experience too, at my age 42 training is a lot easier said than done.

I even started a thread on that very subject a few weeks ago, getting on any course that gave a decent qualifications meant a one year foundation degree followed by the degree, which all takes time and does not help me get work now.

What have you done in the past?

Without going into to much detail, all my past employment has be unskilled, nothing an employer would not see on 90% of the applications they see.

So why not do an OU course?

Their opening (or something similar) - others will know are Free.

Why not do a PCDL type course (free and short). I don't know what they have adult education wise where you live but many are short term, part time and free on benefits.

Take advantage of it - it may not directly lead to a job - but can make friends, network, show you can learn/study, self motivate etc.

I once hired someone who was 23 years out of work (SAHM) because she never stopped during that time. She helped out in school, womens aid, shopped for oldies, did hundreds of short courses (first aid, food hygiene, cooking, sign language).

I don't want to sound negative but I have only signed on today for the first time, so please keep that in mind (not directed at you).

I am not sure what hours are allowed on a course before you are considered not available for work, I have a feeling it is not many, I have looked and to be honest most, if not all, are little more than an introduction to a subject, none I have seen that could be said to even be a stepping stone to a qualification that would get me a job/career, those are the degree type courses.

Wow I feel giving myself a kick up the !!! reading that ;)

6? I thought that the limit was up to 3 'activities' as per DWP regulations. That would include job applications or searching a newspaper or the internet, and maybe banging off a copy of the CV to a company.

    yep 6, I can't believe it either.

16 hours or less and you have to be prepared to give up the studies, but you can often negotiate a day/evening change so rarely do they give up.

Eg counselling level 2 is 2 hours a week and generally in the evening. It may not lead to a job as a counsellor but can lead to an enhanced CV and say for admin work in a school or youth worker even working in a pub supermarket etc it's an excellent addition and a good "start at learning". There are a lot out there - it's just sometimes seeing the wider picture. But that is my RL job in part .

I know you need time to settle into JSA - but don't rule out education at the same time.
