my agreement contract states I need to apply for 6 jobs a week! when in the job centre I said what happens if I can't find 6 to apply for, !he said I am sure you will be able too"he then tried doing a search himself and could only find 1.

Anyone have problem fulfilling their contract? I ready can't see there being 6 jobs that I can apply for within my area or within traveling distance, week one maybe but once you have given your CV to local businesses are you just meant to keep going back to the same places and handing them another or does that not count as applying?

I really want a job but 6 a week

is that what people really do?

He himself even pulled up jobs and tried his hardest to make it fit me but had to admit that applying for a job that said 2 years experience and car needed was pointless, when I have neither.

And do these applications have to be for advertised vacancies or sending in CV to local businesses count as an application?

I think the job centre is a truly dismal place with very few true jobs - it's mainly full of mickey mouse self employment opportunities and zero hours menial temp jobs.

I'm self employed but if I ever wanted to get into regular employment (unlikely) there is absolutely no way I would bother with the Job Centre.

Instead I would be pounding the pavements in my best clothes calling into all the businesses that I would like to work for, trying to have a friendly chat with the manager and leaving my CV, hoping to discover an unadvertised job or hoping to impress enough to warrant a call if they did have an opportunity in future.

I would also research and target every company within travelling distance that I would be suited to work for, proactively calling them on a cold-call basis, trying to reach a manager or HR person and asking them if I could send on my CV, calling up a few weeks after sending it in.

I would go through historic job adverts, ones where the roles have been taken, and enquire if they would accept my CV in case any future ones arose.

I just would hate to be in the clutches of that kind of state apparatus - the job centre doesn't really offer jobs ultimately. It's up the person to find their own work - why wait for an employer to advertise a role and be inundated with 100 applications when they'd probably prefer to offer it to someone that has impressed them and has already pitched for employment.

I have no skills, so any job that doesn't need set qualifications, but a lot of those still either want a year or two of experience or a car, finding 6 that I can genuinely say I stand any chance at all at getting is going to be impossible.

Thanks for that BigAunty I agree with that and you make some very good points but...

As I am all but unskilled I feel the types of jobs I stand a chance of getting are not the type of jobs where cold calling would be suited, I even feel a bit of a con having a CV, I'm sure I can follow a template of a CV with all the buzz words in it but when it comes down to the facts, I have all but no qualifications and past jobs a trained monkey could have done, not sure what I could offer an employer that has the pick of the market.

You DO have skills - I have seen them on here.

You are IT literate, you appear to be organised etc.

I think you need to sit down and do a skills audit of yourself - if you find it hard do one on line or ask a friend.

Once you have your skills (eg good with people, working in isoltation, teamwork, IT, Organisation, problem solver etc) widen your search.

I applied for 3 jobs I had zero experience of (as going through redundancy) and got 3 interviews, 2 job offers and on the third came a close 2nd to an internal candiate.

Next question is how old are you?

Modern apprenticeships are a good opportunity for younger people.

You need to speak to your adviser, she will give you list of sites you can use for jobsearch, not just the direct gov, She will offer you works clubs you can attend for assistance.

You need to try all retail employers own sites, no don't just send a C.V. to your local store, ask about work experience to gain skills, voluntary work. anything to make your self more employable.

Your adviser can and will help you, ask them.
