    Which sort of CC was it? In Belgium LIDL take a local debit card called Bancontract.

    They don't take credit cards in the UK either.
    You obviously shop in the wrong Lidl, I always pay with CC ;)

    Strange.. my local LIDL and ALDI only accept debit, not cc.

    Same with every one I've ever been in around the world from Melbourne to Manchester.

    Strange they say only DEBIT CARDS on their web-site!!

    The Lidl I go to in Belgium accepts any Visa card or MasterCard in addition to Maestro/Bancontact debit cards.

    I used a German-issued Visa credit card. The sign did not specifically mention credit or debit either.
  • They don't take credit cards in the UK either.

    They happily take both here.

    I suspect it's because our banking system is much newer, so odd practices in Western Europe haven't taken hold here. Credit cards are comparatively expensive to use however.
