No weed, no sex shows but a million times better than Lille (which for those who need to know is far, far worse than Sheffield, which is really quite nice!)
I was going to suggest something similar...Bruges/Brugge is lovely & only about an hour away from Brussels on the train. Easy as a day trip or to actually stay there.
We went over bank holiday weekend, although flew rather than Eurostar. Arrived late Friday night, spent Saturday & Sunday morning in Brussels then took the train to Bruges, flew home late Monday night.
I think Belgium generally is quite underrated - we thought both Brussels & Bruges were really nice places, especially if you like good food &/or beer, and just enough to see for a weekend break.0 -

Amsterdam if you've never been before. I don't mind Brussels, how can you go wrong with beer, chips and mayo and a branch of Hema (if it's still there) but I find Bruge a little too nice and dull. I quite liked Antwerp too but go there once you've been to Amsterdam.0 -
Been to both Brussels and Amsterdam. The last time we were in Brussels was late November a couple of years ago. The Christmas markets were on and there was a fantastic atmosphere.
Slightly prefer Amsterdam overall, but I'd definitely give Brussels a go if it's more convenient, better timing for eurostar etc..
Never been to Lille but planning on going in October for a day when we are staying near Paris.0 -
Forget Lille, it's not worth the train fare
Brussels will turn out more expensive as you will have to pay for an extra night
Answer: Amsterdam0 -
Well I have made my decision...... I went for Amsterdam, flying from Luton Fri-Sun, can't wait just have to decide on hotels now!
Thanks for everyones advice, really appreciated, thunk brussels will be next on my list though
(Did make a bo bo though, didn't put my full name on the ticket (second part of my surname missed off) for easyjet... thought I would have to pay the £35 for each flight charge, but thankfully a lovely lady changed it foc for me :j)Recently married and loving it x0
