OP should reset the trip, fill up and see how many miles to a tank, then work out pence per mile."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0

At that sort of mileage, approx 40,000 miles a year. It may well be worth looking for a diesel car.0

Agreed, I wouldn't want to drive 160 miles a day in a 206.
GF has the same 1.4 206 and her car worked out 1p-2p a mile dearer than my old Octavia diesel to run. Same tax and same insurance but a more comfortable drive."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -

I thought it was 160 per week, not per day.
The title of the post says 'Petrol costs for 160 miles return trip to work a week'.
OP can you confirm if you drive 160 miles per week or per day please?Herman - MP for all!0 -

Well I could just about do 32 miles a day in a 206, only just tho !!!"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
I do around 40,000 miles a year. Am on my second Honda CR-V that I had converted to run on LPG.
LPG is half the price of petrol!!
I get 26MPG on Petrol and 25MPG on LPG. Cost £1500 to convert. So brak even after around 11,000 miles.
LPG produces less CO and dirt - so cleaner for the environment.
Done nearly 200,000 miles now on LPG (130k in firts car 70k in present) no engine problems. Honda service the cars for me and they bought the first one back from me as well.
PS. Get a whopping £5 a year discount on the road tax as well.0 -
Ahh, I just read it as "160 miles return trip". If that's per week then ignore my comments about diesel. It's only 8,000 miles per year which is problematic for diesel but perfectly suited to petrol.
Regarding LPG, if the OP is really getting 40mpg out of that Peugeot, then the breakeven point of an LPG conversion will be more like 2-3 years so possibly not worth it. It depends on how long you intend to keep the car and how long you think it will last.0 -
Its only worth LPGing a dreadfully uneconomical car.
Take Yorksboy's CR-V, £10,000 a year on petrol or £4,800 a year on LPG. No brainer really if you want to drive a CR-V.
I wouldn't mind running a RX300 but couldnt justify the low MPG figures but factor in a LPG conversion then the numbers look better. Didnt now you get a reduction on the road rent. Good call!!!!"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0
