Morrisons fuel saver

It really depends on if you were going to spend the money anyway!
For me, we were going to by some sofas at Next anyway - so I bought enough gift cards in Morrisons to cover the full price of fuel - diesel @ 1.399 per litre. Then went to Next and bought the sofa with the gift cards.
My car has a 70 litre tank, so when it is fully empty I will go back and refuel - 70 litres @ 1.399 = £97.93 - so I just got nearly a £100 discount on the sofa for not too much effort
Even bought the vouchers on my new Capital One mastercard offering 5% cashback, so that is a further £70 in my pocket!
Yes I could have got 2 years interest free at Next, but with rubbish savings rate - the Morrisons method was by far the best way.
Of course if you don't have a need for the gift cards then it isn't worth it.0 -
It's worth it if you are planning on making a big purchase at one of the gift card partners like the poster above.
I was buying a new internal hard drive for my laptop last weekend form PC World for £48. I bought £40 worth of gift cards form Morrisons on the way to put towards it. 4p off a litre is not to be sniffed at for no effort at all.
Yes I probably could have got the hard drive cheaper online but that meant having to wait for delivery and running the risk of being out when the courier arrives. Meaning I wouldn't have been able to fix my laptop til this weekend.0 -
I'd agree with the above two posters. You just have to keep this in the back of your mind and if you find yourself planning a big purchase, see if the shop's in this scheme and go to the shop via Morri's.
For example, if you're planning on spending a couple of hundred on a new telly, and Curry's have got what you want at a price you want to pay, then that's 20p off a litre of fuel, so even a relatively small 40litre tank isn't a bad saving.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0 -
Hi
I'm very tempted by this. I have just spent £200 in Next and have a £200 balance on my directory account. I have checked and I can pay my balance with gift cards.
My main question is can you use the vouchers at once or do you have to use one at a time, I have ready they are valid for 60 days.
I currently do 200 miles a week for work alone but that could increase due to new job.
I see this post was started at the beginning - has anyone used this?0 -

When you buy the gift cards, just put them through the checkout on separate transactions depending how many vouchers you want.
E.g. if you want 20p off a litre, buy £200 of gift cards in one transaction. If you want 2 x 10p off vouchers, just split the transaction.0 -

Great thanks very much thats mainly what I was unsure about.0 -
Please be aware that when purchasing the store cards for discounted fuel, if you buy multiple cards only the first card scanned gets an authorisation code!!! the other cards don't get authorised and you are unable the spend the value of the card. This has happened to me twice, luckily i had my recipts and it was sorted by scanning them individually, the problrm with this is you then get individual fuel vouchers (only one allowed per transaction) therefore not the best saving. This could be a nationwide issue and if people havn't kept their recipts they will have no proof. (I bought £180 pounds worth of card as Christmas gifts with the idea of getting 18p per litre of fuel).0

I think that has just been a glitch with you. As I already mentioned in this thread, I bought 2 x £20 PC World gift cards in one transaction and redeemed them in PC World less than 30 minutes later.0 -
Maybe so, this was the Doncaster Morrisons, the store manager was confussed by it. When I bought my first gift cards 3 weeks ago £50 and £20, only the £50 was authorised (I didn't notice this a the time), today bought £10, £10, £10, £50, £50, £50, and only the first £10 was authorised, again I didn't notice this until I went to spend them and only the first card was accepted!!! I rushed home to find my reciepts and returned to Morrisons to sort it out. Luckily they sorted it but it did take over 30mins.
This could be a great saving - JUST MAKE SURE YOU GET AN AUTHORISATION RECIEPT FOR EVERY CARD YOU BUY.0 -
I posted on another thread recently about what happened when I filled up at a Morrisons petrol station recently - my mpg dropped from my normal 45mpg to 37/38 almost instantly after leaving the forecourt.
I waited until the tank was almost empty before refilling with Esso, and the mpg returned almost immediately to its normal 45mpg.
The saving I made by using Morrisons was more than wiped out by the much poorer mileage from their diesel fuel."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0
