well I registered at Pepipoo but can't work out how to post a question... brain is frazzled

got through to Leeds Fixed penalty office and apparently they say the police man that catches you speeding has up to 6 months to put the offence on the system.... blinking heck you could have moved/died or changed name in that time.

    Dipsy,

Can you confirm if you received a NIP within 14 days of the alleged offence?

    Hi Trebor

I haven't received anything through the post, although as it was a roadside offence, I am guessing the pink bit of paper he handed me would be the NIP, need to check when I get home as it has pride of place on my fridge :-)

If it was a roadside offence, rather than a camera, then you were given a NIP at the scene of the "crime". This can be written or verbal.

The 14 day limit is how long they have to issue a nip to the RK after the alleged offence is detected.

So unfortunately for you, there is no getting out of this one on that particular technicality.

The 14 day limit exists as a compromise so that most people don't have to keep detailed driver logs of who used their car. For roadside offences the limit is irrelevant as you know who was driving the car, it's the person currently sat in the back seat of a police car being lectured.

Ah so you were stopped at the time in which case no NIP required, as far as im aware there is no time limit on a COFP. The 6 mths the FP office refered to is how long they have to lay the information before the court if they are going to take you to court

Not much you can do apart from pay it

correction to my last NIP is issued verbally or on the ticket at the roadside as Lum states, i was potentially misleading when i said not required

thanks everyone that clears that up

next question is about my licence, its a bit tatty, and I thought when you got points now you got a photo licence, how does that work, do they send it back with paperwork already endorsed for when you send off for your photo licence?

many thanks again, you have all been most helpful

Just follow the instructions on the conditional offer. If it doesn't say anything about exchanging your licence for a photocard then do not do so. (This is the first I have heard anything like this for endorsements.)

The court will write the points on your licence by hand, inform the DVLA for you, and return your licence a few weeks later.
