I've been a nail chewer forever and I was inspired by QVC OPI hour the other day to try to grow them (just to the end of my fingers) I often watch QVC but never ever buy anything!! Anyway they had something called nail envy on there, which i looked for on ebay and it still costs about a tenner. :(

I know if i spent a tenner i'd probably force myself not to chew lol But are there any ather ideas? I tried the nasty tasting stuff you paint on, years ago and i still chewed and so i ended up vomiting because i'd ingested too much of it!!
Any tips would be good thanks.

I love the OPI Nail Envy, Boots sell it, so could you use Boots points to buy it?. It is a fab product, but you must remember to follow the plan religiously to get the best effects. Getting artifical nails if a good option for letting them grow, but I find they can be quite weak after they come off and more prone to breaking.

    Hi
My nails are weak & brittle too. I use false nails for 2 weeks. Instand of having them done at a salon I tend to buy Avon Instant Manicure. The nail underneath will grow back. I use them for occasions or for as long as I can get away wearing them.

How about eating a cube of jelly a day to build up strength in your nails?

  • Sally Hansen do a great range of nail strengtheners and I have always found them really effective. They are only about a fiver too.

Firstly, give them a good cut and file. Paint your nails with the nail strengthener then paint your nails with normal varnish. Make sure its a relatively bright colour. I find you always tend to be alot more careful with your nails when they are painted.

Repeat every few days (minus the cutting) but make sure you file them!!!! I can't stress that enough, it will help them grow into a nicer shape and will help ALOT with the spilitting.

I bought the OPI Nail Envy stuff from ebay last week as I was trying to grow my nails but they kept breaking. Im finding it really good so far. No breakages since Ive started using it. Think I got it for less than £9 so if it works its a bargain as its much cheaper than get false ones

I found the only way to stop biting my nails was to grow one at a time! As each one grows it gives you an idea of how nice they will all look and how useful they are! Definitely worked for me even though it sounds daft!

That's funny. It just goes to show that it's whatever works for each person!

How long does it take to grow a full two handfulls?

  • Thanks everyone! ive been and bought myself a sally hansen growth encouraging thing lol with my boots points and just some collection 2000 ridge filler and varnish in one. ive dug out an old file and ive put some coconut oil on there each night. (its the only oil i had in)

so far i've noticed my fingers drifting out of my mouth a few times so maybe im chewing subconsciously without realising it!! but they are looking better, not longer yet but better. I have reserved the left pinky for chewing but haven't gone there yet!

Im finding that if i slap on loads of hand cream then firstly they are a bit slimy and a dont put them near my face and seondly that they arent as dry and i dont feel like i need to chew all my skin off too!!
anyway thanks for your help, ill post a pic o my tallons in a few weeks lol
It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'

Wow, what a lucky bargain. If it was me I'd be tempted to put them on ebay.
