    I leave mine alone if they have nail polish on them. But I find that tends to make the nail underneath dry and more prone to peeling when I take the polish off. Base coat doesn't seem to help unfortunately. Then I have to pick of the peeling bits, they break and I'm back to square one! I also can't stand any roughness at all so have to carry an emery board in my handbag.

    Anything that increases the blood flow to your fingertips is meant to speed up growth, eg typing, playing the piano, or drumming your fingers on the table - which may or may not annoy those around you more than the nail-biting!
