Do I have to stand the cost for re-sending courier delivered parcel ?

I recently sold a heavy item on ebay, I sent via courier I asked the buyer the best day for them to await the courier delivery so they could be in and arranged the delivery around the day they told me would be best for them - the courier collected from me as arranged for the next day delivery - a week later I had a message from the buyer saying they still hadnt received the item had I sent it yet ? - as it was next day delivery and I hadnt heard anything contrary I presumed it had been delivered ok, she said she popped out to the shops on the day but no card had been left !
I have chased up the courier to find out where the parcel is (still waiting to hear) - but it will probably be on its way back to me as return to sender - when I receive it back do I have to re-send as I will have to pay the fresh delivery charges with the courier - or if I refund the buyer for the item do I have to refund the delivery charge as well as it wasnt my fault they went shopping on the agreed day and I still have to pay the courier for the failed delivery ?? what do I do ?

If your courier was DHL they should have given you a yellow sheet that you would have signed the top copy of . On this should be your parcel number/tracking details , have you tried entering them on the track your parcel bit of the DHL website ?Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !

I have the yellow sheet with two numbers, a pre-printed sheet number, a handwritten number underneath this, as well as the barcode strip number, I have tried each of the numbers on their website but I dont know if there is a problem on the website but it comes up with invalid tracking no and the number it flashes up is completely different to what I have just typed in - it is weekend so I presume I will have an answer on Monday I only found out about the problem Friday night -
but after a week I should imagine it is well and truly on its way back to me, if she had told me earlier in the week that it hadnt turned up on the arranged Friday I probably could have got DHL to re-deliver straight back to her or collect from the local depot to her - as it is know that a week has gone by it will probably be back at my local depot heading back to me.0 -
If you want to you can PM me the number (barcode one) and I will give it a try for you . Mine all started with JD00........
Edited to add : the JD00..... number , barcode number should be entered under the ident code bit .Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .

You need to tread carefully here anf get your facts right.
Let's assume that delivery was attempted on the correct day then I think the buyer should pay again.
BUT
Did they attempt to deliver on correct day? Did they leave a slip (this could turn into yes we did by DHL and no they didn't by buyer)...tricky one! Have they tried to redeliver (again slip should be left).
Then on the other hand the buyer should really have contacted you earlier especially since you advised them of delivery date.
I think you need to call the buyer do a bit of grovelling and get a feel if they are genuine or not. If in doubt you really need to err with buyer and chase up DHL. Tou really need to get the tracking info and see what has gone on.
I advise all customers when items are due to arrive and get really anoyed when the leave it a week to contat me to tell me its not arrived.
Good luck0 -
i have had problems with DHL before. Not ebay related but my insurance company used them to collect my broken laptop i waited in all day for them and they never turned up. really mad phoned insurance company who in turn got in touch with DHELL and they said they couldn't find my address House been here for many years all on sat nav etc etc .Even though they had my telephone number as well didn't bother trying to call. I'd get in touch with DHell asap.0

I've had lots of problems with couriers.
I have deliberately been in all day, not had loud music on etc, only for them to say that they tried to deliver and no one was in.
I don't know quite how their tracking works, but the last package that I was supposed to receive came up as 1602 Failed delivery, return to base.
This was at 1525, so either their tracking system is flawed or the driver couldn't be bothered to deliver it and just lied about trying.
I ended up cycling six miles to their depot to pick it up myself. I tried to talk to the man behind the desk about why the delivery had failed, and he just shrugged and said, "I wouldn't have any idea".
I think that I've had similar problems with just about every major courier company.
I assume that businesses use couriers because they have an account with them and it's cheaper than Royal Mail.
From now on, I might insist on items being sent by Royal Mail instead. Even if they're no better at delivering, their depot is a lot nearer to me.0 -
I have a lot of stuff delivered and they all get Christmas presents or items at cost. Works great.........
Until you have a new driver on the route its taken the latest one a month to realise he can get his truck down to me, but he will be my new best friend whilst i get him trained.
I even have the previous drivers call me telling what to expect from the new driver.0 -
Thought I was in luck had a message to tell buyer phone number to ring to arrange re-delivery or collection with the barcode number, unfortunately it has turned up return to sender this morning with me - it is so frustrating as obviously if she had let me know sooner it could easily have been re-arranged delivery or collection from the depot -
I have decided to bite the bullet and re-send and not charge any extra - but as yet have not had any response to her from either todays message or from the message telling her to phone for the re-delivery - I am getting pretty miffed !
If she says she has changed her mind and no longer wants it delivering or completely ignores me - will I have to refund the postage charge as well or just the item (I have still had to pay for the delivery) ?
