iphone 4s cracked screen & technical fault

My daughter has had her 4s all of 12 days and has dropped it!!!
There has been a "no service" fault on it from the start. Apple basically want to charge £140 to replace the phone as it is out of warranty due to the cracked screen. Can we get the screen repaired with a 3rd party and then go back to apple to get the technical fault sorted?

Why? Take it to a local dealer specialising in iPhone repairs, and ask them to check it out and fix it. As to the warranty, it expires when an independent opens it, so any other issue would not be covered by them (Apple).

thought getting the screen repaired elsewhere would be cheaper than paying £140. But it looks like if we do that the warranty is invalidated as you say.

is £140 for new or refurbished ?

New I think diamonds- they couldn't fix the "no service" fault so would just give her a new phone- but because the screen is cracked she has to pay £140!
