Moving from BT to ??

Options
Hi, I'm looking to move away from BT as they are becoming very expensive for the service they provide however I'm weary of moving away as currently get a good BB speed at BT, if I was to move to another company say plusnet or talktalk am I likely to get the same speed as I'm currently getting with BT?

Also if I move to talktalk and they monitor P2P what does this actually cover? I use sopcast to watch football and don't want this to be effected.

Thanks for your help.

Speed is dependent on the distance to your exchange, not your provider. If you want to check your expected speed against what you are actually getting use Speedtest and see if the results are similar.
  • If your happy with the service but not the price then you should speak to BT customer options team (retentions) on 0800 800 030 option 1. if your out of your minimum term contract with BT then they will offer you a better deal.
  • If you move to a supplier which resells BT Wholesale then you'll be using the same equipment at the exchange, so your speed should be unaffected.

If you move to a supplier which has it's own equipment (Local Loop Unbundling - LLU) then you'll be using the supplier's own equipment so your speed might change - up or down.

Whether suppliers use BT Wholesale or LLU often varies from exchange to exchange. Samknows will tell you which suppliers have LLU at your exchange.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Thanks, looking at Samknows, there are LLU connects for talktalk and others and having looked at the speedtests of individuals in and around my street for other providers it looks that the broadband speed will not decrease at all.

Now the search begins for the best deal that suits me obviously once I've haggled with BT to try and get their prices down.

    We used to use TitanADSL.co.uk
  • spyhunter is spot on - give them a call and pay upfront for line rental. was in same position recently (long boring story..) also if you take out a 12 m contract diarise it and they will then relook at reducing your bills once its been active for 9 months. would also suggest paying monthly (cant recall exactly what they call it) but its not like the DD plan - say you use £20 a month thats exactly what you pay each month. i have done this as was £80 in credit (even tho online info said i was £60 in credit) so no bills for a couple of months. think its good to use DD to build up credit for seaonal stuff - say heating - but not for phone use
