Drove car home visited car dealer and purchased a safe and reliable Saab.:D

I'm not so sure GM are any more reliable than PSA to be honest. Six and two threes -- out of the frying pan into the fire :(

As a fan of the Peugeot 205, 106 and 306 (gti and rallye variants only) I have to say that French cars are a complete bag of sh*te.....

At least with GM's larger cars they were designed for the "must be reliable" fleet market.

the washer jets has a seal that broke and it leaked windscreen wash onto the fuel injector getting water inside it which has corroded the electronics of the injector causing it to fail

Doesn't make the car dangerous to drive. It'll run like a bag of nails and be underpowered but it will not be dangerous.

Shame on them for trying to frighten you into expensive work.

To be fair, if you are replacing the fuel injectors, the bulk of the cost of the job is getting to the damn things, so it makes sense to replace all four as the other 3 probably do not have much life left in them.

A former boss of mine made this mistake years back when an injector went on a company vehicle. I think the cost was £100 labour and £30 for the injector, so £130 total, or £220 to do all four.

He had just the one replaced, and two weeks later the car was back in the garage (taking an engineer off the road again) with two more failed injectors. They suggested he might want to replace the three for an extra £30 and still he refused, paying £160 to have the two failed ones replaced.

I think you can guess what happened a month later.. yes the car is back in the garage, the engineer is sat in the office twiddling his thumbs and wasting time on eBay while the car is in to have the final failed injector replaced for £130.

Total cost: £420 (and 3 days downtime for an engineer). It would have been £220 (and 1 day downtime) if the cheapskate boss had just replaced all four like he'd been advised to do.
  • The problem i have is paying for the problem knowing it is a common fault with this car so i am making a complaint and hopefully get it done free, Now they are 85 quid each pus vat, also someone suggested i put a cover over them then it wont happen again ...so down the breakers!!!

That repends, the Renault 25 has a cult following as does the 5.

Sure many french cars are carp but they are not all like that.

@sj999 I would have bought a Volvo instead.

There have been 2 accidents here, one involving one of the lads from my rugby team, within a day of each other, both fatalities - both were driving Citroens. The accident I was involved in - other guy was driving a Citroen which was so badly smashed it was impossible to tell what it had even been but our Yaris only had a damaged bumper.
Doesnt really give much faith in Citroens really....

    Saxos by any chance?

That has more to do with the car's 1980s heritage than anything else (Saxo is essentially a 106, which is in itself a development of the old Citroen AX).

(EDIT: Weird, I seem to have chosen virtually the exact words Wikipedia used to describe the 106's heritage. Ho hum).
