So what has happened on the world of Radish since I last posted

Penny's have been OP'ed I think about £20, never get this mortgage cleared at this rate

Have ordered a new kitchen & utility room with a  price tag which now means that we are on a manic saving spree as we didn't have enough money in the bank to pay, all because we want granite worktops and lots of other nice stuff :)

So the majority of the kitchen will be on finance at 20% APR as this gave us 20% of the price of the kitchen, we need to keep the finance for a min of 6 months, which is why I want to pay of 90% of the loan in the first two months which then means the least amount of interest paid, so more of a saving of the kitchen

Finished work last night till next week as we are of down south for a wedding, so thought we would make a (cheap) holiday of it, and on that note I should really go and pack my bag

Forgive me Martin, it has been 3 long weeks since my last post :)

Wedding/Holiday was amazing if a bit windy/cold and rainy, apart from the day of the wedding which was brilliant sunshine and no wind. Everything was perfect, lots to eat & drink and fireworks to end the evening, the only downside was it was over far to quick.

Have had the kitchen designed again, to see that everything fits and then changed our minds on a few things when we were shown the 3D images, so we have sacrificed a large larder cupboard for a smaller larder cupboard and gained some more worktop.

Cancelled most of the appliances as well off the order as we have found cheaper online, so saved some money there

Mortgage OP's = a big fat zero, I think April is the first month in 4 years that I haven't paid any extra to a mortgage, so will have to make amends in September when the kitchen has been paid off and convince BF that we need to pay money of the mortgage as he, will by then have his dream kitchen and I will have had 6 month of OP withdrawls

Leaky house continues, with this week the shower developing a leak, so I have fixed that today with the cost of 2, 25p washers, maybe could have saved money and only bought one but decided on two so I don't have to take the shower apart in a few months time

Grass has been cut, windows washed, washing dried outside (nearly ironed everything as well) BBQ cleaned in preparation for summer but mainly I have sat in the conservatory reading a book

Solar panel meter reading now over 1000 units, so 600+ units since March, next payout is June :)

Not much money news in the world of Radish but did count up the slummy jar last weekend so £36 which I OP'ed :j First OP in 3 months. According to my spreadsheet so far this year we have managed to OP 75% of a month

Kitchen progressing in that we have picked tiles, in a colour neither of us really wants but I don't want brown and he didn't want lime green (neither did I after working out the price £1600) so we are having white, now arguing about the paint colour for the walls. Have also exchanged Mr T vouchers for the tiles so the majority of the tile cost will be free

Holiday been paid for, only 13 weeks to go but don't want it to go to fast as finally enjoying the summer, now it turned up

House is still the best thing ever apart from when the grass needs cutting as it takes for ever but you get a good upper body workout. Had our first BBQ with friends for BF's birthday and I managed to sneak his sister up for the weekend (he hasn't seen her for 3 years). His face when she walked in the pub was a delight

  • Morning Radish!
Good to hear how you guys are getting on and well done on the OP!! I hear you about withdrawals it does get addictive this moneysaving malarkey!

Well done on the DIY projects and on compromising on tiles! ;)

Glad you are getting both a free gym membership (saving at least £50 p/m Id say) from your mowing-the-lawn workouts and a place to socialise! well done on MrRadish's secret surprise!! :p very sweet!

No mortgage OP's since my last post, this is becoming a bad habit that I don't like :)

Lots of money being spent and a small amount coming into the house

Bought all the kitchen tiles this morning, just short of 1K but then used £465 of Mr T Club card vouchers to balance it out

Have sold our old kitchen for £425 (gave the dishwasher away for free since its really old) and sold my old dining table/chairs for £40 so when the kitchen is collected that will nearly cancel out the cost of the tiles

Still need to buy the ovens and hob and the under floor heating and panic at the thought that the kitchen will be ripped out in just over 3 weeks

Still plodding along watching nectar adverts for about a £1 a week so that can go towards the cost of Christmas

Only plus point is that after we have paid the kitchen off, we have agreed to save £10K and pay that of the mortgage before we do some more DIY in the house :D
