Its just confusing when the calculator says you cant claim it and i have used my p60 to fill it in so i have done it right!

So i definately wouldnt need any photographic I.D? Just really not sure whether to claim this or not, i know im entitled etc and i could do with the money but just scared i'll end up with an overpayment letter or something knowing my luck and having to jump through all these hoops for £16 a week is mad.

Going to one appointment with ID is hardly jumping through hoops!

I had to attend an ID interview, I asked why and I was told that when I rang they usually check experidian, and as there was no information about me, they could not verify my ID.

At the interview you will have to provide photo ID and a utility bill with your name and address. They will then set up two secret questions so that you can contact them by phone and won't have to go back to their office again.

Tax credits require you to prove your identity if they don't have enough questions to ask you over the phone. The fact that the address held against your National Insurance number is not the one you live it is cause for them to ask you to attend in person.

At the appointment after you prove your identity and set up your 2 security questions they will give you a claim pack and record the number of the form against your National Insurance number.

This is to try to limit the number of fraudulent claims submitted by people ringing up pretending to be someone else and get a form.

Re photographic ID if you don't have a driving license or passport consider getting an electoral identity card for any future instances when you are asked to prove your identity. A works pass which has your name and photo on it will also do.
