Attempting to claim Tax Credits

As discussed on another thread, i have rang HMRC to get a Tax Credits claim started.

They asked my for NI Number, name , date of birth and address and for some reason they cannot identify me so i have to got for an interview before i can even get a claim form.
This is the exact reason why i didnt bother claiming when my son was born it was just total hassle.

I dont have any photographic I.D whatsoever, so that another problem.

I know an extra £28 a week will be helpful but why is it such a pain to claim it?

Anyone know why they cannot identify me and what alternate I.D i can use in this situation?

  • Ive actually just checked on the Tax Credits calculator and i will only get £16 a week according to this.

Also as i said in the other thread i cant get WTC as my husband doesnt work, the calculator has confirmed this and i will only get CTC.

So how many hours do you work?

You need to be working at least 24 hours a week.

    No passport? No driving licence?

Take any of these along that you have:

    • bank and building society and post office account statements (this will show your CB)
    • credit and charge card statements
    • mortgage statements or rent books
    • Council Tax bills
    • Housing Benefit claims
    • household bills
    • payslips or other proof of your income, P60
Keep perservering. You are eligible for child and working tax credit.

I know how you feel. Just trying to get through to Tax credits on the telephone for a client sends my blood pressure soaring!

Its just confusing when the calculator says you cant claim it and i have used my p60 to fill it in so i have done it right!

So i definately wouldnt need any photographic I.D? Just really not sure whether to claim this or not, i know im entitled etc and i could do with the money but just scared i'll end up with an overpayment letter or something knowing my luck and having to jump through all these hoops for £16 a week is mad.

I it because i have changed address since my son was born and not informed them?
