Iphone 3GS Orange Locked - Advise Please

Hi,

I have just purchased a Iphone3 GS from a friend for my Daughter. We (the family) are all on T-Mobile and would like her to be on tmobile also ideally, as i have a sim only contract for my current phone which she could use.

1stly can i use my non ipone sim card in the iphone 3 ? I have been told different things.

2nd how best to unlock the phone from orange ? I have done some reading and it would appear that i need to be a customer of oragne for 3 months, which i'm not. I went to a local "unlocking stallholder" and he quoted me £50.00.

I tried to get a sim only deal for Orange, but this was too expensive unless i took out a 12 month sim contract, but i failed the credit check.

Any thought or ideas or suggestions ??

Thankyou,

Falze

  • Orange and T-Mobile are the same company - I have an orange phone and a t-mobile sim - they work fine together. Have you tried the sim in the phone?

Your friend will be able to obtain the unlocking code from Orange, they charge about £15 I think. Failing that, you are looking at market stalls, however, if they don't do the unlocking correctly you might find that a future software update with re-lock the phone. For value and peace of mind, i'd recommend giving your friend the cash and asking them to call Orange.

Yes, if the phone is not locked to a different network.

    Correct.

I wouldn't trust a stallholder with unlocking iPhone. Theoretically only Orange can do this, but practice seems to be different. Have a look at this thread: I-Phone 4s Legit Unlocking

It doesn't have to be a contract. PAYG is fine: http://help.orange.co.uk/orangeuk/support/personal/478935

They are not the same company, although they have the same owner and share their masts.
Did you try other sims? I am pretty sure your phone is not locked.

I have tried and it didn't work. I know i can use their siganals, i was told the sims dont work in each others.

I will try again though, i case i did something wrong.

PAYG could be expenses as daughter in an internet child !!

    Thanks for your responses.
