Ill keep it short, item sent on 16 Aug recorded delivery, buyer emailed last week saying no delivery has been made.
checked royal mail tracking and it says in processing.
buyer warns me he will open an ebay case, even though item was sent recorded delivery.
(Also he payed for 2nd class but I PAID extra to cover my back)
whats do i do?

You refund in full and use your proof of posting to reclaim your losses from RM. It is probably best to refund before buyer opens a case as if you do itin good grace you will probably avoid poor feedback.
recorded is a pretty useless service and as it does not show As received you cannot win any dispute.

Also i used stamps pre-rise so receipt shows i payed 22p or something.
Is that all i can claim for or can i claim what item sold for + postage?
Just to mention i had to open a non paying case and that i payed for recorded, as he only paid for standard 2nd class.0 -

If you are a private seller RM usually pay out the full eBay value, so item value and postage as per the listing .
As for the stamps, it is probably immaterial as all you need is proof of postage, or the orange slip with the PO stamp as a receipt.
Lastly it is immaterial what buyer paid for and how you sent it, buyer gets his full initial payment back and you get the eBay value.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. just put a claim in today (assistant said it was earliest i could do it).
whats was weird was Royal Mail said you can claim only what SELLER paid for it NOT what the BUYER paid. Anyway i printed off the order page and sent it with the claim.
Buyer wants a refund by today. But as i havent had money back from RM and i am out of pocket for the delivery and the item costs, should i only refund the item costs and delivery later? Am i within my rights to do this?0 -

Absolutely not- the RM claim has nothing to do with your buyer. Refund in full and hopefully you will avoid poor feedback and stars- although making me wait 3 weeks as a buyer for a refund would make me cross enough to leave a neutral and poor stars for you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. The buyers contract is with you not RM.
You shoudl be refunding the buyer his cost+postage right away.
you then claim back the item cost (which of course you declared correctly) and the postage costs from RM.0 -
You should've refunded your buyer ages ago! It's not their fault it didn't arrive!
Refund immediatly and apologise lots to prevent a neg and low stars!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -

Someone might correct me, but I think that's only for business sellers.
Private sellers should get the sold price back.0 -

Private sellers should get the sold price back.
OP hasn't told us what they are. They may be a business.
But if they are not a business, then they should get either the eBay value or the purchase value, whichever is cheaper - for private sellers that is normally the eBay value, but there are occasions where it might be the other way around (I've had DVDs and books which have gone for more than I expected because they are sought after by a particular buyer - I sold a DVD to Australia once for £10 that cost me £3 on Amazon).
Regardless, it is completely immaterial what buyer did or did not do. The only issue now is to sort out a refund before buyer gets legitimately upset."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
