Hi,

How to build a mobile app? Sorry - the whole thing is completely new to me and I am a bit suspicious of websites saying "build for free!"

Hmm, not sure. I have a linked saved somewhere which is a template for a Soundboard but all you need really for that it a few background pics and the wav files.

well there are few websites on internet which help you make mobile apps for free,
but what they do is just take your webpage made for mobile and integrate it into a app with inbuilt browser with no navigation or any other url info of source.
if you are just thinking about making some app which provide some news or information, then you should try these free websites like appgeyser. but if you want some real mobile app, with good gui and logic of reminding you and some other sort of typical things which needs access to hardware of mobile then you have to learn mobiles app programming language like java and should sign up as developer on websites of android, Symbian and iOS or any other preferred platform. there is no shortcut of making some mobile app.
